The main adverse effects of brain cancer on the human body

Brain cancer accounts for about 8.5% of all tumors in the body and is divided into primary and secondary brain cancers. Primary brain cancer occurs in brain tissue, meninges, cranial nerves, pituitary gland, blood vessels and residual embryonic tissue, etc., and can cause serious harm to the human body when it occurs.

Symptoms of increased intracranial pressure

The human cranial cavity is a relatively sealed and fixed cavity surrounded by bony structures, which contains brain tissue, cerebrospinal fluid and blood. As the tumor continues to expand, it continues to occupy the limited space in the cranial cavity, causing increased intracranial pressure. The main symptoms of the patient are severe headache, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, etc.

Visual impairment

The continuous expansion of the tumor can lead to a significant increase in intracranial pressure, which can cause edema due to poor blood return in the eye veins, and severely damage the visual cells of the retina, leading to decreased vision. Some patients may experience visual field defects or double vision. If the patient's condition is not effectively controlled, it may even cause blindness.

Neurological dysfunction

The unbridled growth and expansion of malignant tumors will continuously compress and infiltrate normal brain tissue and cranial nerves, causing various neurological dysfunctions in patients. For example, when the tumor invades the cerebellar hemisphere, it will cause unilateral limb ataxia in patients; damage to the cerebellar vermis will cause truncal ataxia and staggering gait.

Abnormal hormone secretion

Some brain tumors may release some harmful ectopic hormones, disrupting the normal endocrine function of the human body and causing adverse reactions and symptoms in patients. For example, pituitary tumors can secrete prolactin, leading to amenorrhea, infertility, and nipple lactation in women.
