Why does the skin have purple spots

Why does the skin have purple spots

The skin can be regarded as the largest organ in the human body. The whole body is covered by it. While the skin protects the human body, it is also more prone to various problems. Skin allergies, redness, swelling, itching, spots, etc. are enough to make people feel troubled. Especially when everything was fine, you suddenly find purple spots all over the skin. How can you not panic? Let's talk about why purple spots appear on the skin.

Purpura can be classified as:

(1) Simple purpura generally has no systemic symptoms. Scattered bright red bruises the size of a needle tip may appear on both lower limbs and do not fade when pressed. After seven days, the color gradually fades and disappears. But new petechiae appear.

(2) Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura can be divided into acute and chronic types. The acute type is less common and can occur in children, often with a history of infection before the onset of the disease. The disease is characterized by sudden onset, fever, extensive skin bleeding, large ecchymoses and hematomas, mucosal and urogenital bleeding, and a significant decrease in platelets, which may be less than 5,000/mm3.

(3) Rheumatic purpura: Slightly raised rice-sized ecchymoses appear on both lower limbs. Petechiae, wheals, or edematous erythema may also appear. At the same time, there may be swollen and painful joints, as well as systemic symptoms such as fever and weakness in the limbs.

(4) The skin manifestations of abdominal purpura are similar to those of rheumatic purpura, but symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, tenesmus, and bloody stools may also occur. In severe cases, intussusception may occur.

Purpura is a disease name in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Also known as purpura, it is characterized by blood overflowing under the skin and mucous membranes, resulting in the appearance of petechiae and ecchymoses that do not fade when pressed. It is one of the common hemorrhagic diseases in children.

It is often accompanied by nosebleeds, bleeding from the teeth, and even vomiting blood, blood in the stool, and blood in the urine. This disease belongs to the category of blood syndrome. The diseases and syndromes recorded in ancient Chinese medical books such as "grape plague", "muscle bleeding" and "spot poison" have similarities with this disease. This disease includes allergic purpura and thrombocytopenic purpura in Western medicine.

The age of onset of Henoch-Schönlein purpura is mostly 3-14 years old, especially school-age children, more common in males than in females, and more common in spring. The age of onset of thrombocytopenic purpura is mostly 2-5 years old, with no difference in the incidence between boys and girls. The mortality rate is about 1%, and the main cause of death is intracranial hemorrhage.
