Guidelines for symptomatic care of patients with colorectal cancer

Nursing is an extremely important part of the treatment and rehabilitation process of colorectal cancer patients. Proper daily care of patients, especially symptomatic care, can make patients comfortable and accelerate the recovery process.

Blood in stool and frequent bowel movements

1. Keep the ward clean and quiet, and ask the patient to rest in bed more.

2. If there is a lot of blood in the stool, the patient's consciousness, complexion and vital signs should be closely observed. If the bleeding is severe, the doctor should be promptly assisted in the rescue.

3. For patients who have frequent bowel movements, family members should assist in caring for the skin around the anus, such as washing with warm water after each bowel movement.

Constipation

1. Cultivate the patient's habit of regular bowel movements.

2. Patients with dry stools should not struggle or squat for a long time. They can use glycerin suppositories to soften the stool.

3. Patients should take a hot water sitz bath or fumigate the anus before defecation to promote smooth defecation.

4. You can eat more laxative fruits such as bananas, and eat more fresh vegetables, whole grains and crude fiber foods.

Abdominal pain

1. Family members should be patient and empathize with the patient's description of abdominal pain. They should provide emotional support by listening and touching, and accept the patient's feelings and reactions to pain.

2. Family members should pay attention to observe and record the characteristics of abdominal pain, including the location, position, intensity, nature, onset time, duration, etc.

3. Instruct the patient to adopt a posture that relieves abdominal pain, such as a semi-recumbent position; be especially careful when moving the patient so as not to aggravate the pain.

4. Guide patients to learn self-control or use suggestive scenarios to distract attention from pain, or reduce the impact of tension and stress on the body, such as relaxation techniques, self-suggestion, internal cultivation, guided imagination, etc.

If the pain is more severe, doctors can use green and safe treatments such as acupuncture, moxibustion, massage, and medicated ironing to relieve it. When using Chinese medicine to relieve pain according to the doctor's instructions, pay attention to the side effects of the medicine. When increasing abdominal pressure, press the abdomen or waist in advance, or use chest breathing to prevent or relieve abdominal pain.
