Advantages of CT virtual colonoscopy technology

In recent years, with the rapid development of CT hardware facilities and computer technology, a new colorectal cancer detection technology has emerged in the medical community - CT simulated colonoscopy, which is beneficial to improve the diagnosis rate of colorectal cancer.

What is CT virtual colonoscopy?

This technology combines CT technology with advanced imaging software technology to produce 3D and 2D images of the colon. The former is to use spiral CT to cross-scan at different levels along the axis of the large intestine after paying attention to the air, and then reconstruct it in three dimensions by computer to show the structure in the intestinal cavity; the latter refers to cutting the colorectum along the longitudinal axis and observing the external image from the transverse axis, sagittal plane, and coronal plane.

The combination of 3D internal images and 2D external images complements each other and plays an important role in detecting colorectal cancer.

Advantages of CT virtual colonoscopy

As a new examination method for colorectal cancer, CT virtual colonoscopy has the following advantages:

1. The examination does not require any sedatives or contrast agents, has no obvious contraindications, and has a low risk of complications such as intestinal bleeding and perforation. Therefore, it is widely applicable, especially for patients who are elderly, weak, have cardiopulmonary insufficiency, acute intestinal obstruction, etc. who cannot tolerate traditional examinations.

2. It can accurately display the morphology, range and growth of lesions. In vitro observations show that this technology can detect 4-5 mm colon lesions;

3. The entire colon can be examined, including the proximal intestinal tract that cannot be passed by traditional colonoscopes due to intestinal stenosis;

4. It can provide important diagnostic information for patients with low intestinal obstruction to determine the cause and location of obstruction before surgery;

5. The examination is non-invasive, quick and causes less pain to the patient.
