Topical treatment for skin cancer

Topical treatment for skin cancer

Skin cancer is a malignant tumor with local skin lesions as the main clinical manifestation. In addition to the common surgical treatment, radiotherapy and internal chemotherapy for other cancers, local topical drug treatment is also a treatment method that cannot be ignored.

Topical Western medicine

Among the Western medicines that can be used topically, commonly used medicines can be divided into the following categories according to their different mechanisms of action:

1. Interfere with nucleic acid biosynthesis

This type of drug works by inhibiting thymidylate synthase to synthesize pyrimidines, ultimately interfering with nucleic acid synthesis. Fluorouracil ointment is commonly used.

2. Damage to DNA structure

This type of drug can react with nucleophilic groups in cells to destroy the structure and function of DNA, and is commonly used as bleomycin ointment.

3. Induce cell differentiation

This type of drug can block the expression of oncogene phenotypes, inhibit the growth of malignant cell types in a variety of animals and humans, and induce cell differentiation. Commonly used products include retinoic acid cream.

The above-mentioned drugs are all used for local external application.

Topical Chinese medicine

When using Chinese medicine externally, different external medicines can be selected according to the different symptoms of the disease. The most commonly used dosage form is ointment.

For early stages of swelling and ulceration, you can use golden ointment or jade dew ointment.

During the ulcer stage, you can use Shengji Hongyu Paste or Shengji Baiyu Paste.

For yin sores, Chonghe ointment and Huiyang Yulong ointment can be used.

Precautions for using external medications

The ointment should be applied thinly and changed frequently to prevent pus from soaking into the skin and making it difficult to dry. If it is applied too thickly, it will grow excessively and affect the wound.
