How to reduce pancreatic cancer pain

How to reduce pancreatic cancer pain

The physical functions of patients with advanced pancreatic cancer are relatively weak, especially as the disease progresses. The most common symptom accompanying pancreatic cancer patients is pain. How can it be relieved?

For common pain, drugs can be used to relieve pain, such as morphine sustained-release tablets and controlled-release tablets, which can treat moderate to severe pain, such as bone pain, visceral pain, and pain caused by cartilage tissue infiltration, but are less effective for neuralgia. However, it also has many side effects, and drugs are often used clinically to reduce its side effects and enhance the analgesic effect.

Surgery is a necessary and effective treatment for obstructive pain caused by tumor compression and stimulation. Chemotherapy can be used to treat pain caused by tumor invasion of internal organs and celiac plexus, thereby reducing or eliminating the compression of multiple nerve roots by the tumor and relieving and eliminating neuralgia. Radiotherapy has a 70%-85% relief rate for pain caused by cancer compression or invasion of nerves. If the primary lesion is sensitive to radiotherapy, the effect is even better.

The pain experienced by patients with advanced pancreatic cancer is not a single pain, but a mixture of various pains. Therefore, multiple methods are used in clinical treatment to relieve pain. This also requires the patient's family to provide psychological counseling to the patient and increase confidence in treatment.

Tips: Five causes of pain in late-stage pancreatic cancer:

1. The tumor blocks the pancreatic duct and bile duct, causing abdominal distension and pain;

2. When the tumor invades the celiac plexus, it causes pain in the upper abdomen and lower back;

3. Tumor invasion into the visceral capsule or peritoneum may cause periumbilical or general abdominal pain;

4. Tumors can cause edema of the pancreatic head and can also cause pain;

5. Pain caused by surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
