How to eat properly after gastric cancer surgery

If a gastric cancer patient undergoes surgical treatment, because the surgical site is in the stomach, it is more likely to affect normal diet than other surgeries. So how should the patient correctly obtain enough nutrition to meet the body's metabolic needs for a period of time after the operation?

After gastrectomy, patients should be fasting and drinking for a period of time. After 24-48 hours, when the general condition is good, intestinal peristalsis is restored, and anal gas is discharged, a small amount of warm water or glucose drink can be given. If there is no discomfort, a small amount of light liquid food can be given the next day, such as rice soup, vegetable soup, thin lotus root powder, light fruit water, etc., but sucrose, milk and soy milk cannot be taken, because these foods can cause abdominal distension. Liquid food can still be used on the fourth day, but sweet milk, sweet soy milk, etc. can be added to the liquid food. On the fifth day, semi-liquid food with less residue can be used, such as rice porridge, tofu stewed with minced meat and tomato juice, wontons, noodles stewed with minced tomato juice or vegetable juice, bread, cake, milk, soy milk, etc. On the ninth day, nutritious, easy to digest, non-irritating and soft food can be used instead. If there is nausea, abdominal distension and other discomfort after eating, the diet should be reduced or stopped. After the symptoms disappear and the condition improves, start eating again.

The recovery diet after gastric cancer resection is very important, which not only makes up for the chronic consumption of preoperative diseases, but also makes up for the loss of surgical trauma. Therefore, the five-times-a-day diet for gastric disease should be adopted for a long time to ensure that there is enough high-nutrition, high-protein, and high-vitamin food to promote the repair of trauma.
