How does TCM understand prostate cancer

The traditional Chinese medicine's understanding of prostate cancer can be traced back to the medical classic "Huangdi Neijing" more than 2,000 years ago. Many medical classics since then have discussed prostate cancer. Prostate cancer has different names in traditional medicine, and belongs to the categories of "urinary retention", "knot", "hematuria", and "urinary incontinence".

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the onset of prostate cancer is related to the dysfunction of the kidney, spleen, liver, bladder and other organs. Doctors of all dynasties have explored the etiology and pathogenesis of this disease from different perspectives and have gradually formed a complete system of diagnosis and treatment. Combining the words of various doctors, it is found that there are five causes of prostate cancer: first, old age and physical weakness or excessive sexual intercourse, kidney deficiency, qi transformation disorder, and poor opening and closing; second, internal injuries caused by the seven emotions, liver depression and qi stagnation, and insufficient drainage, resulting in abnormal transportation and transformation of triple energizer water; third, irregular living, excessive fatigue, and unregulated diet, resulting in spleen deficiency and failure of clear qi to rise and turbid yin to descend; fourth, alcohol and spicy food addiction, damp heat accumulation, and betting on the bladder, resulting in poor qi transformation; fifth, the retention of bad sperm, blood stasis blocking the waterway, and the damp heat evil qi and blood stasis blocking over time, stagnating into lumps, compressing the urethra and causing urinary retention and other symptoms.

Traditional medicine has also accumulated a lot of experience in the treatment of prostate cancer, but it always adheres to the principle of syndrome differentiation and treatment, pays attention to the holistic concept, and treats both the symptoms and the root causes. While alleviating the pain of patients, it effectively prolongs their survival and improves their quality of life, reflecting the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine.
