Statins may reduce prostate cancer risk

It is well known that statins can lower cholesterol, especially low-density lipoprotein levels, and can effectively protect the cardiovascular system. Recent studies have found that statins also play an important role in inhibiting the incidence of prostate cancer.

Elizabeth Platz, an associate professor of epidemiology at the Lomborg School of Public Health in the United States, found through a 10-year investigation that the risk of prostate cancer in people taking statins is half that of those who do not take drugs, and the risk of metastasis in patients who already have prostate cancer is reduced by 1/3. At the same time, staff at another research center in the United States also came to the same conclusion through a study on the correlation between statins and prostate cancer.

Statins can reduce the incidence of prostate cancer, which may be related to the fact that cholesterol is an essential element for the production of testosterone in the human body, and testosterone levels directly lead to the onset of prostate cancer, and statins can lower cholesterol. Since testosterone, a male hormone, can promote the growth of prostate cancer lesions, once the body partially blocks the source of testosterone and other male hormones through cholesterol-lowering drugs, it also reduces the level of testosterone, and naturally reduces the risk of prostate cancer.
