Regular screening for young people can prevent colorectal cancer

Intestinal cancer is a very harmful digestive tract malignancy, and its incidence has increased significantly in recent years. In the past, intestinal cancer was more common in the elderly, but now people's dietary structure has changed, and it is not uncommon among young people.

In 2009, there were about 1.2 million new cases of colorectal cancer and 630,000 deaths worldwide, an increase of 27% and 28% respectively compared with 2000. Among the new cases, 400,000 were in my country, and the age of onset was significantly lower, with an average of around 45 years old, 12-18 years earlier than in Western countries. The incidence rate of young and middle-aged people aged 30-40 increased the fastest.

This is because young people have a faster metabolism, so colon cancer cells are also very active and the degree of malignancy is extremely high. Once cancer occurs, the cells will grow and proliferate rapidly, and are prone to recurrence after treatment and may also metastasize to other parts.

Many people will wait until the symptoms of the disease are obvious before seeing a doctor. At this time, the disease has reached the clinical stage. Although young people have better physical strength, they cannot afford to delay. Therefore, young and middle-aged people should pay more attention to their physical health in a stressful social environment with a fast work pace and mental stress. They should conduct regular screenings. If they have symptoms such as abdominal pain, anemia, constipation, and malnutrition, they should go to the hospital for endoscopy and fecal blood test in time to rule out the possibility of colorectal cancer. If the disease is discovered before the clinical stage, the treatment effect will be much better than treatment after the symptoms appear, and the chance of recovery will also be higher.
