1. Inflammatory diseases of the colon: such as intestinal tuberculosis, schistosomiasis, granuloma, amebic granuloma, ulcerative colitis and colon polyposis, can be differentiated by the duration of the disease, parasite examination in stool, morphology and extent of lesions found in barium enema examination, etc. The most reliable differentiation is through colonoscopy and biopsy.

2. Appendiceal abscess may be misdiagnosed as cecal cancer. However, the blood count of appendiceal abscess shows increased white blood cells and neutrophils, and there is no cachexia such as anemia and weight loss. A barium enema examination can confirm the diagnosis.

3. Hemorrhoids, bacterial dysentery, chronic colitis, etc. are often difficult to distinguish from rectal cancer, with a misdiagnosis rate of up to 60% to 80%. The main reason is that necessary examinations are not performed, especially digital rectal examination and colonoscopy.

4. Colorectal carcinoid tumors are asymptomatic when small, but may rupture when they grow larger, resulting in symptoms very similar to colon adenocarcinoma. Malignant lymphoma originating in the colon has diverse lesion morphology and is easily confused with intestinal cancer, requiring a pathological biopsy.
