Because the baby's body systems are not yet fully developed, they will have strong reactions to many external stimuli. When the baby goes to bed at night, many mothers are worried that the baby will catch a cold at night, so they cover the baby more tightly. Often after this, the baby will have nosebleeds when sleeping at night. Many times, if a baby's nosebleed is not discovered at night, it will stop on its own. What causes nosebleeds at night? In fact, if you observe carefully, you will find that this kind of nosebleed is closely related to children often picking their noses with their fingers. Children's habit of picking their nose often occurs after they have a cold. Because a large amount of nasal mucus stimulates the nasal vestibule, the skin becomes red, swollen, and eroded, and sticky secretions ooze out, causing local burning and pain. This is acute vestibulitis. When the cold subsides, the dermatitis of the nasal vestibule also gradually improves, and the secretions condense into dry scabs or pus scabs. At this time, the nose is often blocked, itchy and has a foreign body sensation. Ignorant children will unconsciously use their fingers to pick their nostrils, trying to peel off the scabs to make breathing easier. Because the inflammation has not disappeared, mucus continues to seep out and soon forms a scab, which causes discomfort in the nose again. As a result, the person picks his nose again, and this cycle repeats itself, leading to chronic vestibulitis. Every time the scab is picked out, it may cause nose bleeding, especially at night when children feel itchy nose while sleeping, and rubbing it vigorously without consciousness makes nose bleeding more likely. It is not difficult to cure this disease, but first of all, you must get rid of the bad habit of picking and rubbing the nose. Children's nails should be cut short. For younger children, you can wear cotton gloves before going to bed to prevent them from picking their noses. At the same time, physical treatment is performed for chronic vestibulitis, especially applying ointment locally on the nostrils before going to bed to reduce the irritation of the local scab. Generally, it can be cured after about two weeks of continuous treatment. How to deal with nosebleeds in children 1. Cold compress If a small amount of blood is dripping, parents can use ice bags or wet towels to cool the forehead and neck, or rinse the mouth with cold or ice water to constrict blood vessels and reduce bleeding. 2. Pressing the nose wing The specific operation is that parents use their thumb and index finger to pinch the nostrils on both sides for about 10 to 15 minutes (if you are sure which nostril is bleeding, you can directly press the bleeding nostril). Many parents first think of using paper towels to block the bleeding. In fact, the pressure of paper towels is usually not enough to stop the bleeding. Moreover, paper towels are not sterilized and can easily induce infection. While compressing the nostrils, sit down with your head slightly tilted forward and downward so that you can spit out the blood in your mouth. Instead of asking their children to hold their heads up like many parents do. Because when the child raises his head, the blood will be swallowed involuntarily, which will irritate the gastrointestinal tract and cause nausea, vomiting, etc. Especially when the amount of bleeding is large, aspiration may occur. 3. Timely diagnosis and treatment If the nose bleeding cannot be stopped after taking the above measures, or the child is bleeding heavily and is accompanied by pale face, cold sweats, rapid heart rate, etc., the child should be sent to the hospital immediately. In addition, if the child has recurrent nosebleeds, he or she should also go to the hospital for examination to see if there is rhinitis, foreign body in the nasal cavity, nasal and nasopharyngeal tumors or blood disease. 4. Pay attention to your diet During nosebleed, do not eat hot food or hot drinks. You should eat some warm food rich in protein, vitamins and iron, such as rice juice, milk, juice, etc., or eat some semi-liquid food, such as porridge, noodles, etc. Avoid tobacco, alcohol, spicy and hard foods, and eat more fresh vegetables and fruits. |
