Soreness after acupuncture

Acupuncture is a treatment method in traditional Chinese medicine. It can be used to treat various diseases and keep the blood flowing smoothly in our body. However, the process of acupuncture can make us feel painful, and some doctors are not proficient in acupuncture techniques, which may also cause harm to the patient's health. Most people will experience pain after acupuncture, so how can we relieve the pain after acupuncture?

Is it normal to feel sore after acupuncture?

It is normal to feel pain after acupuncture, so don't worry too much.

The cause of pain is generally related to a person's perception of pain. At the same time, after acupuncture, there will be certain aftereffects of acupuncture, and pain is one of its external manifestations.

If there is swelling and pain, it means that acupuncture is effective. However, if there is severe pain, it means that the position of acupuncture is wrong and the nerve or bone has been pierced.

Generally speaking, it is normal to experience swelling and pain after acupuncture, and the pain will usually disappear after 1 to 3 days of rest.

What should you pay attention to after acupuncture?

1. Don’t catch cold, and it’s best not to be blown by cold wind.

2. It is best not to take a bath within one day after acupuncture.

3. Pay more attention to your diet after acupuncture. Eat more light and nutritious foods and avoid spicy, irritating and greasy foods.

Is it normal to have increased pain after acupuncture?

It depends on the situation. Some situations are normal, while some situations where the pain increases after acupuncture are abnormal.

1. It may be due to excessive stimulation or needle stagnation. It causes local muscle fiber damage, causing pain and discomfort in movement, which usually lasts for one to two days. You can stop acupuncture for one or two days and then continue treatment. If the condition is serious, you can choose moxibustion treatment.

2. The patient feels allergic. In many diseases, sensory nerves become abnormal, which means that the sensitivity to pain increases. Even to slight stimulation, the reaction is more sensitive than normal people and there is a feeling of pain. These patients will experience a slight so-called "pain" after acupuncture.

3. Inability to distinguish feelings related to "pain". Acupuncture of different acupoints may cause feeling of soreness, numbness, swelling, heaviness, and electric current-like sensations. This is called “getting qi,” and is a sign that acupuncture is effective. Traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes that acupuncture must generate qi. The faster the qi is generated, the better the effect; the slower the qi is generated, the worse the effect. However, about one-third of patients cannot distinguish the various sensations in the Qi, and they all feel one feeling, namely "pain".
