Symptoms of esophageal cancer at different stages

Perhaps people already know that the symptoms of esophageal cancer are not single, and the symptoms of esophageal cancer at different stages are also different. So what are the symptoms of esophageal cancer at different stages? Let the experts answer these questions for us.

Esophageal cancer, also known as esophageal cancer, is a malignant tumor that occurs in the esophageal epithelial tissue, accounting for 2% of all malignant tumors. About 220,000 people die of esophageal cancer each year worldwide. my country is a high-incidence area for esophageal cancer, and the number of deaths from esophageal cancer ranks second only to gastric cancer. The age of onset is mostly over 40 years old, and there are more males than females. However, in recent years, the number of patients under 40 years old has been increasing. The occurrence of esophageal cancer is related to chronic stimulation by nitrosamines, inflammation and trauma, genetic factors, and the content of trace elements in drinking water, food and vegetables.

The symptoms of esophageal cancer vary in different stages. The symptoms of esophageal cancer in the middle and late stages mainly include the following three aspects:

1. Progressive dysphagia is the main symptom of esophageal cancer when most patients seek medical treatment, but it is a relatively late manifestation of the disease. Because the esophageal wall is elastic and has the ability to expand, dysphagia only occurs when about 2/3 of the circumference of the esophagus is infiltrated by cancer. As the cancer destroys the muscle wall, invades the circumference of the esophagus, and blocks the lumen, the diseased section of the esophagus loses elasticity and forms an irregular narrow channel, and dysphagia becomes more and more serious, from being unable to swallow solid food to being unable to swallow liquid food. If the cancer is accompanied by esophageal wall inflammation, edema, spasm, etc., dysphagia may be aggravated. The location of the obstruction is consistent with the location of cancer obstruction.

2. Food reflux may occur due to dilation and retention in the proximal part of the esophageal obstruction. The reflux contains mucus mixed with old food and may be bloody or contain necrotic and detached tissue blocks. This is also a symptom of esophageal cancer.

3. Swallowing pain is caused by cancer erosion, ulcer, external invasion or proximal esophagitis. It is more obvious when eating, especially after eating hot or acidic food. The pain may involve the neck, shoulder blade and back. B. Other symptoms: Long-term insufficient food intake leads to obvious chronic dehydration, malnutrition, weight loss and cachexia. There are enlarged left supraclavicular lymph nodes, or other manifestations caused by the spread and metastasis of cancer, such as hoarseness caused by compression of the recurrent laryngeal nerve, pain caused by bone metastasis, jaundice caused by liver metastasis, etc. When the tumor invades adjacent organs and perforates, esophageal bronchial fistula, mediastinal abscess, pneumonia, lung abscess and aortic puncture and massive bleeding leading to death may occur. This is also a symptom of esophageal cancer.
