What types of advanced gastric cancer can be divided into?

What types of advanced gastric cancer can be classified into? I believe many people have this question. Advanced gastric cancer is also called progressive gastric cancer. The cancerous lesions invade the muscular layer or the entire layer and often metastasize. Let's follow the experts to learn about the classification of advanced gastric cancer .

(1) Fungus-like type (or polypoid type): It accounts for about 1/4 of advanced gastric cancer. The tumor is localized and mainly grows into the cavity. It is nodular and polypoid, with a rough surface like cauliflower, and erosion and ulcer in the center. It is also called nodular fungus-like type. The tumor is disc-shaped, with raised edges and ulcer in the center, which is called disc-shaped fungus-like type. There is a tumor on the posterior wall of the lesser curvature of the gastric antrum that protrudes from the gastric cavity. It is slightly lobed, with an uneven granular surface and erosion. The base of the tumor is slightly narrow and subpedicular, and there is no obvious infiltration of the surrounding mucosa. This is one of the classifications of mid- to late-stage gastric cancer.

(2) Ulcer type: It accounts for about 1/4 of advanced gastric cancer. It is divided into localized ulcer type and infiltrative ulcer type. The former is characterized by localized tumor, disc-shaped, and central necrosis. There are often large and deep ulcers; the ulcer bottom is generally uneven, with raised edges like embankments or craters, and the tumor infiltrates into the deep layer, often accompanied by bleeding and perforation. The infiltrative ulcer type is characterized by infiltrative growth of the tumor, often forming a mass that obviously infiltrates to the periphery and deep, central necrosis to form an ulcer, and often invades the serosa or lymph node metastasis at an early stage.

(3) Infiltrative type: This type is also divided into two types. One is the localized infiltrative type, where the cancerous tissue infiltrates all layers of the stomach wall, mostly limited to the gastric antrum. The infiltrated stomach wall becomes thicker and harder, and the wrinkles disappear. There are usually no obvious ulcers and nodules. Infiltration is limited to a part of the stomach, which is called the "localized infiltrative type." The other is the diffuse infiltrative type, also known as the leather stomach, where the cancerous tissue expands under the mucosa, invading all layers over a wide range, making the stomach cavity smaller, the stomach wall thicker and stiffer, the mucosa still present, and there may be congestion and edema without ulcers. This is also the classification of mid- to late-stage gastric cancer.

(4) Mixed type: Two or more lesions of the above types coexist.

(5) Multiple cancers: Cancerous tissues are multifocal and not connected to each other. For example, gastric cancer that occurs on the basis of atrophic gastritis may belong to this type, and most of them are located in the upper part of the stomach. This is also the classification of mid- to late-stage gastric cancer.

The above is an introduction to the classification of middle and late stage gastric cancer. I hope the above content can be helpful to you. If you have any questions about gastric cancer, you can contact our online experts and they will give you detailed answers.
