Four major treatment methods for esophageal tumors

The treatment of cancer is based on the principle of comprehensive treatment. According to the overall plan of the disease, appropriate treatment methods are arranged in time. For more advanced lesions, the choice of treatment plan should be based on the primary goal of prolonging survival time and the principle of maximizing the quality of life. Surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, biology and traditional Chinese medicine are used in combination. The following are the four major treatment methods for esophageal tumors.

1. Surgical treatment Surgical resection is the main method for treating esophageal tumors. Early resection can often achieve a radical cure. In the past 20 years, great progress has been made in the surgical treatment of esophageal tumors.

2. Radiotherapy includes external radiation, intracavitary radiation, preoperative radiation and postoperative radiation. Surgery for cervical and upper thoracic esophageal tumors is traumatic and has a high incidence of complications, but radiation damage is small and the efficacy is better than surgery. Radiotherapy should be the first choice. The radiation source can be 60Co or X-ray.

3. Chemotherapy Combined chemotherapy is not only an important treatment measure for advanced esophageal tumors, but also an adjuvant therapy in combination with surgery and radiotherapy. Currently, effective chemotherapy drugs commonly used in clinical practice include taxanes, cisplatin, bleomycin, fluorouracil, doxorubicin, etc. There are continuous reports of encouraging results of combined chemotherapy and radiotherapy for the treatment of esophageal tumors.

4. Experiments have shown that Rubescens and Rubescensin have significant cytotoxic effects on human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma cell line CaEs-17 and inhibitory effects on a variety of animal transplanted tumors. Clinical applications have also shown that they have certain therapeutic effects. Some Chinese medicines also have certain effects on esophageal tumors.

The above introduces the four major treatment methods for esophageal tumors. The treatment methods for patients at different stages are different and should be treated differently in order to achieve the expected treatment effect.
