Woke up covered in sweat

Why do I wake up covered in sweat?

Sweating is actually a normal phenomenon, but if you wake up at night sweating profusely, this situation is called night sweats. There are many reasons for night sweats. In daily life, there are many diseases that can cause night sweats, such as tuberculosis infection, lung fungal infection and other diseases. It may also be due to taking too many heat-clearing and analgesic drugs, which can cause night sweats. However, everyone must pay attention to night sweats and find out the reasons in time.

Why do I sweat when I sleep at night?

A look at the color

Yellow sweat: Sweat is yellow, which is mostly caused by the excessively high concentration of a substance called bilirubin in the blood. It is mainly seen in liver and gallbladder diseases, such as acute and chronic hepatitis, cholecystitis, cirrhosis, etc. In addition, if you eat a lot of fruits and vegetables such as carrots, oranges, and tangerines, you will also experience temporary yellow sweat.

White sweat: White belongs to the lungs. When the lung color is exposed, white sweat appears. It is mostly caused by deficiency of heart and lung yang, and is often related to weak heart and lung function. Sometimes, severe pain (such as stomach pain) can also cause profuse sweating.

Red sweat: Sweat appears red, which is often related to endocrine dysfunction, or it may be bleeding in a certain part of the body. However, taking chemical preparations such as potassium iodide may also cause red sweat.

Green sweat: Sweat turns green, indicating bile leakage, such as acute suppurative cholangitis.

Second smell

Urine odor: Sweat gives off a urine odor, and after the sweat dries, it will leave crystals on the skin, which is common in patients with uremia.

Fishy smell: Sweat has a special fishy smell, which is more common in cirrhosis of the liver.

Fragrance: Sweat that emits a fragrance is often a sign of diabetes.

Three look at the location

Partial sweating: Sweating on the left or right half of the body or the upper and lower half of the body is more common in patients with rheumatism and hemiplegia, and sometimes it is also a sign of impending stroke.

Forehead sweating: Sweating is limited to the forehead. If the amount of sweating is small and there are no other symptoms, it is a normal phenomenon. If it happens to a patient, it may be a sign of worsening condition.

Nose sweat: Sweating on both sides of the nose is mostly a sign of lung deficiency.

Intermammary sweat: Sweating is limited to between the two breasts, which may be caused by mental fatigue, physical exhaustion, and damage to the heart and spleen.

Genital sweating: Sweating is limited to the area around the genitals and is often related to kidney disease.

Sweating of hands and feet: Sweating of hands, feet and other limbs is mostly caused by blood deficiency and yang deficiency. It is normal for your hands and feet to sweat due to mental stress.

Four symptoms

People who sweat excessively, are afraid of heat, have increased appetite, have a rapid heartbeat, and have trembling limbs may be suffering from hyperthyroidism. Cold sweat, pale face and fainting may be caused by hypoglycemia. If excessive sweating occurs in paroxysmal episodes and high blood pressure is present, it may be due to pheochromocytoma.

How to treat night sweating?

1. Bedding, bed boards, pajamas, etc. should be washed or dried frequently to keep them dry, and you should take a bath frequently to reduce the irritation of sweat to the skin.

2. Maintain the traditional sleep pattern of giving equal emphasis to the morning and evening, and taking a nap in the afternoon. As long as you form a routine that suits you, there is no need to force yourself to change it. But the basic needs and basic physiological laws of sleep are the same. Whether you go to bed early and get up early, or go to bed late and get up late, the approximate sleep time and sleep cycle are the same. Also, if you don’t sleep well one night, don’t try to make up for the sleep the next day to avoid creating a vicious cycle.

3. Night sweats can be effectively treated with diet therapy, and you should also pay attention to strengthening exercise, but also pay more attention to rest to prevent excessive fatigue.

4. Good sleeping habits can help you get the best sleep and achieve full rest. Soak your feet in hot water before going to bed, try to stay there for a long time, drink a cup of hot milk, and listen to some light music. This is also very helpful because several acupoints on the soles of the feet have a good effect on kidney deficiency.

5. Appropriately adjust the temperature and humidity of the living environment. For example, the living environment of people with yin deficiency and blood heat should be slightly cooler.

6. Soothe the disturbed mind: Psychological disturbance is the cause of insomnia for most people. Maintaining a peaceful mind, being tolerant towards others, and leading a positive and optimistic life are extremely beneficial to having a good sleep.
