Does folic acid replenish blood?

Folic acid is a familiar drug, and women should usually take folic acid regularly in the first three months of their pregnancy. Because folic acid can prevent fetal malformations in women. You should take folic acid when you are trying to conceive. Men should also eat it, so that the probability of fetal malformations after pregnancy will be greatly reduced. Then blood supplementation is an important thing for the human body. So does folic acid replenish the blood?

Is folic acid a blood tonic?

The main ingredient of folic acid tablets is folic acid, and the auxiliary ingredients are: microcrystalline cellulose, sodium carboxymethyl starch, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, and magnesium stearate. Indications/Functions: Folic acid deficiency caused by various reasons and megaloblastic anemia caused by folic acid deficiency; preventive administration to pregnant and lactating women; folic acid deficiency caused by chronic hemolytic anemia.

Folic acid is the raw material for the production of red blood cells and has the effect of replenishing blood. It is recommended that you do not neglect iron supplementation while supplementing folic acid. Pay attention to your usual dietary nutrition.

Clinically, folic acid is used as a supplemental therapy for megaloblastic anemia caused by various reasons, but it is ineffective for megaloblastic anemia caused by methotrexate, pyrimethamine, trimethoprim, etc. For "pernicious anemia" caused by vitamin B12 deficiency, large doses of folic acid can correct blood routine, but cannot improve neurological symptoms, and vitamin B12 needs to be used at the same time.

Warm reminder: Whether it is medicinal supplements or food supplements, you must insist on eating them every day, so that the blood supplement can be effective. And you must take it under the guidance of a doctor! Do not abuse the drug yourself! If you feel any discomfort, please go to the hospital in time!

What does folic acid do?

1. Prevent anemia in pregnant women. The body of pregnant women needs folic acid to produce normal red blood cells. The survey shows that the prevalence of anemia among Chinese women of childbearing age is 20.6%. Insufficient folic acid intake may also cause anemia in pregnant women.

2. Reduce the risk of birth defects. After 13 years of research on the "China-US Cooperation Project on Preventing Neural Tube Defects", 250,000 cases of evidence-based medicine have confirmed that women of childbearing age who take 0.4 mg of folic acid every day from the beginning of pregnancy preparation can reduce the incidence of fetal neural tube defects by 85%, the incidence of fetal cleft lip and palate by 50%, and the incidence of congenital heart disease by 35%. They can also reduce major external deformities of newborns by 15% and the neonatal mortality rate by 20%.

3. In the middle and late stages of pregnancy, in addition to the growth and development of the fetus, the development of the mother's blood volume, breasts, and placenta greatly increases the demand for folic acid. If folic acid is insufficient, pregnant women are prone to placental abruption, pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome, and megaloblastic anemia; the fetus is prone to intrauterine growth retardation, premature birth, and low birth weight, and the growth and intellectual development of the fetus after birth will be affected.

Women of childbearing age should take 0.4 mg of folic acid daily starting three months before pregnancy and continue throughout the pregnancy. If you are not sure about your situation, be sure to consult your doctor. It is best to take folic acid half an hour to an hour before breakfast, and it is better absorbed on an empty stomach.
