Can toothpaste cure burns?

We all cannot avoid getting burned in our daily lives. After a scald, the burned skin will become red and swollen. If the burn is severe, blisters may appear, and people will feel pain in some parts of the skin. After being scalded, emergency treatment is the most important thing. If handled properly, the wound can recover quickly. Many people apply toothpaste after a burn. So, can toothpaste really cure burns?

Don't apply toothpaste after burns

Burns are one of the most common household accidents. After getting burned, we usually immediately apply toothpaste, Vaseline, soap, or hair oil, believing that toothpaste can cool the burned area and reduce the severity of the burn.

Experts believe that it is wrong to apply toothpaste after burns. Experts say that because the heat from the wound is covered by substances such as toothpaste, the heat can only diffuse deep into the subcutaneous tissue, resulting in deeper burns. Although some toothpastes have astringent effects and are helpful for minor burns, toothpaste cannot change the permeability of blood vessels or protect wounds. On the contrary, toothpaste can easily cause exudate to accumulate, breed bacteria and cause infection.

Experts suggest that the best way to treat burns is to rinse the injured area with cold water, such as placing it directly under the faucet and rinsing it with tap water for 10 minutes, or soaking the affected area in cold water to allow the heat to cool down, relieve pain and reduce the extent of injury. Experts also remind everyone that if the area of scald is too large, you must seek medical attention immediately. Severe scalds or burns can cause dehydration, kidney failure, and even be life-threatening, so you must be careful.

The correct way to deal with burns on your hands:

1. Take off your outer clothes quickly and clean and cool the burned area with clean water.

2. If the burn area is not large, you can apply some burn medicine yourself.

3. Go to the doctor immediately for emergency treatment.

Note: After your hands are scalded, you must take emergency and effective treatment measures. Never apply toothpaste or other things at random. In an emergency, seek medical treatment immediately to avoid delaying treatment.
