Root canal treatment for decayed teeth

Root canal treatment for decayed teeth

Tooth decay does not only occur in children. Many adults may also develop tooth decay for various reasons. As the disease worsens, patients will always experience toothaches, so the best way is to ask a doctor for treatment, either to extract or fill the tooth. Root canal treatment is a commonly used method. First, the decayed tooth must be cleaned and medication is placed, and then the root canal treatment can be performed a few days later. This process takes about five days.

1. Dental X-ray

For more serious cavities, the dentist will take an X-ray of the tooth to see if the root is damaged. If the root is damaged, the tooth will have to be extracted. If there is no damage, then root canal treatment will be performed.

2. Cleaning cavities

Next, clean the cavities. First, use a dental drill to grind off the black cavities part of the tooth. You will not feel anything when grinding your teeth. Then use pliers, scoops, etc. to clean the internal decay, and rinse it continuously with salt water. After cleaning, the doctor stuffs a ball of cotton soaked in a mild anesthetic into the tooth cavity, and the first treatment is completed.

3. Seal cavities

After an interval of three to five days, in order to avoid bacterial infection in the next step of root canal expansion, the root canal was slightly unclogged with a needle, repeatedly cleaned with salt water, and the residual decay was removed with tools, and finally the decayed tooth was sealed with disposable sealing materials. It only takes a few minutes and is painless.

4. Clean your teeth

My teeth were swollen and painful, so I took some anti-inflammatory drugs: ibuprofen, metronidazole, tinidazole, etc. Three days later, the doctor will remove the disposable sealing material, clean the teeth, place a ball of anesthetic cotton, and take medicine until the swelling and pain disappear. After the swelling and pain subside, the doctor will use the upper method to seal the tooth again. If there is no swelling or pain, you can proceed to the next step after a week.

5. Root expansion

If there is no swelling or pain, proceed to the next step of root expansion after one week, which is also the most critical step. Open the closed tooth, clean it, and tentatively insert the root canal with a root expansion file to feel the length of the root. After determining the required length of the root expansion needle, the root expansion needle is repeatedly pulled out and inserted to dredge and expand the root, while constantly rinsing it with salt water. The whole process takes about half an hour.

6. Tooth filling

After another week, open the tooth, clean the internal residue, fill the expanded root with filling material, and then seal it layer by layer with resin material. After completion, the doctor asks you to bite back to see if the filling is smooth, and the whole process is completed.
