A common name for various animals of the family Octopus

Octopus: A common name for 252 species of marine mollusks in 26 genera of the family Octopus. The largest family of cephalopods, it is divided into the subfamily Bathypolypodinae, Eledoninae, Graneledoninae, and Octopodinae. The body is oval or ovate, with strong muscles, a narrow opening to the mantle cavity, and generally no water pores on the body surface. Wrist suction cups in 1 or 2 rows. The third arm on the left or right side of the male is sedum-like, with a spermatic groove on the ventral edge of the arm and a spoon-shaped ligule at the end; the sedum-like arm cannot be severed by itself. Funnel jacket lock degraded. With a pair of reduced needle-shaped inner shells or without inner shells. If there is a radula, the lateral teeth of the radula are generally single-pointed. The stomach and cecum are located behind the digestive glands. This family is an important commercial cephalopod, with a certain amount of production of true octopus in the southern coast of China and short octopus in the northern coast. The dried octopus product is called "dried octopus" or "dried octopus". In addition to being edible, it also has the effects of nourishing blood and qi, and astringing and promoting tissue regeneration in medicine. It is a temperate mollusk that lives underwater. The water temperature it adapts to cannot be lower than 7°C. The seawater specific gravity of 1.021 is most suitable. It will die in an environment with low salinity. It can grow by feeding on large animal plankton. Widely distributed in tropical and temperate waters of the world's oceans.

Reproduction method

The breeding time of octopuses in the ocean is generally concentrated in spring and autumn, when the sea water temperature is around 16°C. Octopuses like to lay eggs in snail shells, so you can use a rope to pass through the red snail shell and sink it to the bottom of the sea, then retrieve and catch it on time. In autumn and winter, they often burrow in muddy burrows in deeper waters. Octopuses are dioecious. The male has a specialized arm, called the pygidial arm or coaptational arm, which is used to place the spermatophore directly into the mantle cavity of the female. During the breeding season, female octopuses lay eggs, which are about 0.3 cm long and number more than 100,000, under rocks or in caves. During the incubation period, the female guards the eggs, cleans them with a suction cup, and stirs them with water. After a female octopus lays a single batch of eggs, the young will hatch 4-8 weeks later. The young octopuses are similar in shape to the adults but smaller. After hatching, they need to drift with the plankton for several weeks and then sink to the bottom of the water to hide.
