Rubella virus igm weakly positive

Rubella virus igm weakly positive

Rubella is an acute respiratory infectious disease, which is mainly caused by infection with rubella virus. Once you get rubella, it will have a great impact, especially for pregnant women, as it can cause fetal malformations. When suspected rubella symptoms occur, you need to go to the hospital for rubella virus IGM testing and make a judgment based on the results. So, what is the matter with the weak positive rubella virus igm? Let’s take a look below.

Rubella virus antibodies IgG and igm. There is no problem if the rubella virus IgG antibody is positive, which means that the patient has been infected before and now has antibodies in the body. However, if the rubella virus igm antibody is positive, it means that the virus has been infected recently. In this case, it is best to do amniocentesis to find out whether the fetus is infected.

Rubella-specific antibody IgM determination is generally performed 1 to 2 weeks after the onset of rash or cold-like symptoms. A positive IgM indicates a recent acute rubella virus infection. It should be noted that IgM can show false positives, in which case a rubella-specific IgG affinity test is required. A high IgG affinity often indicates a past rather than a recent infection.

In addition, the duration of IgM in the serum of pregnant women infected with rubella virus is short-lived. If combined with intrauterine infection, IgM can be continuously monitored in the serum. Experts indicate that a single positive rubella virus IgM test in pregnant women should be treated with caution, because a single positive rubella virus IgM test makes it difficult to determine whether there is infection and cannot be used as a basis for guiding pregnancy management. In this case, you should go to the hospital for a check-up and listen to the doctor's advice.

It is generally believed that pregnant women with positive rubella virus IgM should undergo multiple consecutive tests. Pregnant women with continuous positive results for more than three consecutive months can be roughly determined to have intrauterine infection of rubella virus, and they can be advised to terminate the pregnancy from the perspective of eugenics.
