Hyperthyroidism causes eye discomfort

Hyperthyroidism causes eye discomfort

Hyperthyroidism is a relatively common disease in our lives. When the patient becomes ill, he will feel that the thyroid gland becomes obviously enlarged, the eyes become bulging, and the patient's temper becomes worse. He often feels upset and even feels uncomfortable all over. When the patient has symptoms of hyperthyroidism, he should go to the hospital for relevant examinations and receive effective treatment under the guidance of a doctor.

Hyperthyroidism eye discomfort

First of all, hyperthyroidism must be controlled. For mild cases, you can wear tinted glasses and use artificial tears to protect the cornea, and avoid smoking. For moderate to severe eye diseases, patients can use corticosteroids, radiotherapy, and orbital decompression surgery. Throat pressure symptoms are mainly caused by the enlargement of the thyroid gland, which presses on this area. It is recommended to go to the nuclear medicine department of a local public hospital for further examinations under the guidance of a professional doctor to clarify the specific situation and facilitate further treatment.

1. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism

1. Protruding eyeballs:

Hyperthyroidism has a great impact on the patient's eyes. There are two types of exophthalmos: benign exophthalmos and malignant exophthalmos. The former accounts for the majority of exophthalmos. It is usually bilateral, occasionally unilateral, or one eye protrudes first and then the other. The main symptoms of benign exophthalmos are widening of the palpebral fissure, staring eyes, and less blinking.

2. Enlarged thyroid gland:

Exophthalmos is usually bilateral diffuse swelling, the gland is soft or medium hard, and moves up and down with swallowing. Because the blood vessels in the gland dilate and blood flow accelerates, vascular murmurs can be heard locally and tremors can be felt by palpation. A small number of patients may have nodules.

3. Hypermetabolic syndrome group:

The symptoms include intolerance to heat, red skin, sweating, low fever, warmth and humidity, weight loss, muscle weakness, and easy fatigue.

4. Symptoms of increased excitability of the nervous system:

The symptoms include nervousness, irritability, impatience, insomnia, frequent dreams, and lack of concentration. There are slight tremors when both hands are stretched out, and slight tremors of the tongue can be seen when it is stretched out.

5. Digestive system symptoms:

Hyperphagia, eating significantly more than normal people. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism also include diarrhea and increased frequency of bowel movements, 2-4 times a day. The liver and spleen may be slightly enlarged. Some patients develop jaundice and elevated transaminase levels.

6. Systemic symptoms:

There are often varying degrees of muscle weakness, muscle wasting, and muscle atrophy, and systemic muscle atrophy occurs, which is called chronic hyperthyroid myopathy. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism may also be accompanied by periodic paralysis and myasthenia gravis.
