Can I take a shower after hanging the water?

We know that intravenous infusion is an important treatment method. Many people go to the hospital for intravenous infusion after catching a cold or fever. There are many things to pay attention to after infusion. If you are not careful, it may worsen the disease. If the infusion is ineffective, not only is it a waste of money and time, it will also have a negative impact on your illness, which is not worth it. So, can I take a shower after the infusion?

The first is that it is easy to cause infection

If the syringe, needle and the skin at the injection site are not disinfected strictly during infusion, the needle hole may become red, swollen and festered, and in severe cases, it may cause systemic infection.

Second, infusion is more likely to cause adverse reactions

Compared with oral medication and intramuscular injection, during infusion, the drugs enter the blood vessels directly without passing through any barriers. Once an allergic reaction occurs, the patient may go into shock or even die within a few minutes. If the infusion rate is too fast, pulmonary edema may occur due to excessive circulatory load.

Third, it is time-consuming and costly

An infusion can take as little as one hour and as much as four or five hours, which is obviously more time-consuming than oral medication or intramuscular injection. The same drug at the same dose costs several times or even dozens of times more than oral or other commonly used methods of medication.

Fourth, blind infusion is more likely to increase drug resistance in the entire population.

Therefore, intravenous infusion is not the best choice but the worst choice. It should only be chosen when oral and intramuscular injection are not possible. It can be judged based on the following three situations.

The first is to provide intravenous infusion according to the needs of the disease, for emergency and serious cases, if necessary. For example, if you have a fever and your body temperature exceeds 39℃ or even 40℃, you should choose infusion. Patients with severe dehydration or shock due to diarrhea, vomiting, bleeding, etc. need infusion to correct water and electrolyte imbalance, maintain acid-base balance, increase circulating blood volume, and maintain blood pressure.

The second is that according to the nature of the medicine, some medicines cannot be injected intramuscularly, so they can only be injected intravenously. For example, some chemotherapy drugs for treating tumors can cause tissue ulcers and necrosis, so they must be administered through a central vein. "Nutritional drugs" such as fat emulsions cannot be injected intramuscularly because the dosage is so large, and the same is true for fluid replacement. Vitamin C, which is commonly used in clinical practice, is also very irritating and can corrode muscles, so it is generally injected intravenously.

The third is based on the patient's condition. For example, a comatose patient cannot take medication orally, so only intravenous injection is used.
