How to not be nervous when giving a speech

How to not be nervous when giving a speech

In our daily life, whether at work or at study, we should have opportunities to give speeches, and we should seize every opportunity to give speeches, because it is a good way to train ourselves. But for most people, they will feel nervous when giving a speech on stage facing many audiences, so this emotion will affect a person's speaking skills. So how can you not be nervous when giving a speech on stage?

1. The mentality you need to have:

1. Believe that everyone can become an excellent speaker. There are many examples that prove that an average speaker can become an excellent speaker through practice.

2. Understand that your audience wants you to succeed. They come to your speech hoping to hear something interesting, meaningful, and stimulating and elevating their thinking.

3. If you have no confidence or interest in a speech, try to turn it down if possible.

2. What you need to do to practice your speech:

1. Practice more is the best preparation. The more confidence you have in your heart, the better your performance will be.

2. When practicing, ask your family and friends to be your audience and give you feedback. If you don't have any family or friends, a mirror or your pet can be your audience. Try to imagine yourself standing in front of the audience.

3. Record audio and video, and then achieve improvement through self-criticism. Practice each speech at least twice, and it’s best to keep practicing until you know it by heart. Make sure you can finish your speech within the time limit.

4. If your mind goes blank, prepare a speech, practice it many times, and go over it in your mind several times.

5. If you are still worried, bring your notes with you so that you can check them on the spot if you forget.

6. If you are still worried, write out your speech and then deliver it live.

3. What you need to do before the speech:

1. If possible, chat with the audience in the first few rows before going on stage. On the one hand, it can make the situation friendlier and help you reduce your stress; on the other hand, it can also give you a few more friendly faces so that you can speak more easily.

2. If you are worried that you are not passionate enough in your speech, drink a few more cups of coffee before the speech - if you will tremble after drinking too much, it is better not to drink it.

3. Taking deep breaths before going on stage can lower your blood pressure and clear your mind.

4. Relax your facial muscles by making facial movements, such as opening and closing your eyes and mouth, but be sure not to be seen by others.

4. When giving a speech, you should try to:

1. If you forget your speech halfway through, don't be nervous. Just jump to the next topic. It is very likely that no one will notice your mistake.

2. Pauses are not a problem. Don’t always try to fill every second by speaking. The best speakers use pauses to drive home their main points.

3. If looking at the audience's eyes makes you nervous, then look at the top of their heads (the audience won't notice).

4. Look directly at the audience and change the object of gaze randomly. Don't look left and right or up, as this will make you look untrustworthy.

5. If looking at the audience makes you nervous, then you can look more at friendly or smiling faces.

6. If you can, present your speech in a way that is close to a conversation. Use simple sentences to express clear ideas, and don't be too picky about words.

7. It is best to use body language appropriately, make some gestures, and don’t be too rigid.

8. If you are shaking, don't hold paper in your hands because the paper will make your shaking worse. The hands can be clenched into fists or held on to the podium.

9. Never mention your nervousness or apologize for your performance during a speech. That will only make you lose more confidence.

10. If you can attract the audience's interest in your opening remarks, the entire speech will be much easier and smoother.
