Pharyngitis hiccups and belching

Pharyngitis hiccups and belching

Some people with chronic pharyngitis will recover after taking medicine, but for others it takes a long time and the usual reactions are also very serious, such as hiccups and belching. Many people think that pharyngitis, hiccups and belching are caused by problems with the throat when breathing. In fact, they may also be related to the stomach. This is because most of the symptoms of pharyngitis, such as hiccups and belching, are caused by gastric esophageal reflux and coughing, which leads to the delay in healing of pharyngitis.

Who is the culprit behind the first chronic pharyngitis?

In clinical practice, the latter group of patients often tell doctors painfully that they not only have redness and swelling in the throat, but also have long-term pain and foreign body sensation in this area. In fact, these patients suffer from symptoms caused by reflux gastric juice eroding and irritating the pharynx, and gastroesophageal reflux disease is the real "culprit" behind the scenes. Therefore, if after excluding pharyngitis caused by nasopharyngeal diseases, it is still accompanied by heartburn, belching, or a burning sensation behind the sternum, and the more severe these symptoms are, the more severe the throat symptoms are, then it is very likely reflux pharyngitis. Patients with stubborn chronic pharyngitis that does not heal for a long time must be vigilant.

The second cough may be gastroesophageal reflux

There may be three reasons why this happens. One is that burping after eating too much causes gastric acid reflux; the second is the relaxation of the upper esophageal sphincter; the third is that when lying flat at night, the head is lowered, causing gastric acid substances retained in the proximal esophagus to flow into the pharynx. Therefore, such patients should first avoid overeating or eating before going to bed, and not take drugs that affect esophageal motility function; secondly, the pillow should be properly raised when sleeping to raise the head, which will help reduce the occurrence of reflux pharyngitis; thirdly, if it has been confirmed that there is "acidity" in the throat, in addition to local application of anti-inflammatory drugs and throat lozenges, acid-suppressing drugs and prokinetic drugs should be used in combination; finally, avoid long-term stimulation of the stomach from smoking, drinking, strong tea, and strong coffee, so as to avoid increased heartburn after stomach discomfort, which can irritate the throat mucosa, causing persistent or even worse inflammation of the throat.

The main symptoms of reflux esophagitis

The main symptoms of esophagitis are pain and difficulty in swallowing, burning sensation in the heart and pain behind the sternum. When esophagitis is severe, it can cause esophageal spasm and esophageal stenosis. When inflammation at the lower end of the esophagus causes mucosal degeneration and gastric columnar epithelial cells to grow, it is called Barot's esophagus. This is the precursor of esophageal cancer and its changes must be tracked over a long period of time. Generally, bleeding from esophagitis is mild, but it may also cause vomiting blood or asphalt stools.
