What to do if you can’t eat spicy food

Spicy and spicy food is a stimulating taste. Most people like spicy food, not only because it can stimulate people's taste buds and arouse people's appetite, but also because it can add flavor to food. However, since spicy food is a stimulating food, doctors will remind patients to avoid spicy food when taking medicine. Some people may be born more sensitive to spicy food, and will have allergies or damage their stomach after eating it. So what should you do if you can't eat spicy food?

People do not need to perceive the spiciness through taste buds. Instead, it is absorbed through the skin or oral mucosa and directly stimulates the sensory nerves under the skin and mucosa, producing a hot and burning sensation.

The reason why people feel spicy is because of the effect of "capsaicinoids". Capsaicinoids are present near the seeds of Capsicum plants, where they protect the seeds from fungal pathogens and mammalian attack.

Capsaicinoids include natural capsaicinoids such as capsaicin (capsaicin) (69%), dihydrocapsaicin (22%), nordihydrocapsaicin (7%), homocapsaicin (1%) and homodihydrocapsaicin (1%), as well as a series of other artificially synthesized similar compounds such as vanillinamide.

At first, your mouth may just feel numb, as if you have lost some sensation.

For the body, the spicy feeling sends signals to the brain in the form of "heat" and "pain", and then the brain will secrete endorphins to make you "painful and happy".

If the concentration of capsaicin is too high, far exceeding the numbness of the mouth, the body will form blisters to protect itself. These blisters can absorb some of the high heat and sacrifice some surface cells to protect the body. Most blisters are formed in the mouth and throat.

If the capsaicin content is even higher and even the blisters cannot block it, the "spicy" taste will continue to stimulate the nerve endings of the receptors under the blisters, making the body feel an incredible burning sensation.

Under special circumstances, the body may use the high fever reaction produced by capsaicin to fully activate the defense system, leading to muscle spasms, tracheal obstruction, anaphylactic shock and other life-threatening conditions.
