Is there formaldehyde in putty

When we decorate the walls of a new house, we have to use putty powder, which can make the walls achieve a bleaching effect. Since the price of putty powder is very affordable, it has always been very popular in the decoration industry. Putty powder also has some disadvantages, such as poor environmental protection. Now people pay more and more attention to environmental protection, and many people have doubts about putty powder. So is there formaldehyde in putty?

First, is there formaldehyde in putty? Generally speaking, putty powder is a natural inorganic mineral and is non-toxic. It’s just that putty for engineering use is usually prepared on-site, and a large amount of construction glue (containing formaldehyde) is added to it to increase the adhesion of the putty powder, which makes people afraid of formaldehyde. In addition, when preparing putty powder for engineering purposes, resin-like thickeners such as clear oil or lacquer may also be used. The volatile substances are slightly toxic and the content is very low. The volatile substances are restricted by relevant standards and basically will not have much impact.

Second, construction putty is divided into ordinary putty and water-resistant putty. Ordinary putty is for indoor use only, and is generally composed of heavy calcium powder (or double fly powder) plus glue powder (that is, modified starch glue plus cellulose). The main ingredient of calcium powder is calcium carbonate, which is commonly known as fine powder ground from stone; it does not contain formaldehyde. The materials used in the production of modified starch glue and carboxymethyl cellulose for interior wall putty basically do not contain oily solvents, so they will not contain formaldehyde.

Third, water-resistant putty is made of lime powder or cement as inorganic gelling material, heavy calcium powder (or double fly powder) as filler, redispersible latex powder, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and other additives. The main component of lime powder is calcium hydroxide (the main component of slaked lime), which and cement are well known to us and cannot contain formaldehyde.

Is there formaldehyde in putty? Redispersible latex powder is made by spray drying of emulsion. We all agree that latex paint with emulsion as the main bonding material does not contain formaldehyde. Redispersible latex powder has been used in Europe for decades, so we can rest assured. Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is a powder that is completely soluble in water. It is also used in some foods and is completely formaldehyde-free.
