What's wrong with bloodshot eyes?

Eyes are very important to the human body. They are one of the main ways for people to observe the outside world. Eyes are also a very fragile organ. People's bad living habits, such as looking at mobile phones and computers for a long time, will damage their eyes. Some people have bloodshot eyes. What happens when this happens? Let me introduce it to you below.

In fact, the eyes of healthy people are filled with extremely tiny blood vessels, but because they are so small, they are sometimes difficult to see with our naked eyes. Workers who frequently use computers, work overtime, lack of sleep, and severe overuse of their eyes often cause congestion of the capillaries in their eyes. Once congested, the bloodshot will be much more serious than usual, making us see red bloodshot in their eyes.

What causes red bloodshot eyes? In addition to long-term excessive use of the eyes, frequent eye makeup, staying up late, foreign objects in the eyes, and "getting angry" can also cause red bloodshot eyes. If there are red bloodshot eyes, normal vision may be affected to a certain extent. If it is not improved in time and you continue to overuse your eyes, it will lead to eye infection. In severe cases, it may cause the capillaries in the eyes to rupture, resulting in eye bleeding. In addition, bloodshot eyes may be a sign of conjunctivitis. If it is confirmed to be conjunctivitis, symptomatic treatment must be given.

Conjunctivitis is a general term for a series of inflammatory reactions of conjunctival tissue caused by the stimulation of external factors and the action of the body's own factors. Although conjunctivitis will not have a serious impact on vision, if it is not treated promptly or is treated improperly, it is likely to cause corneal inflammation or other complications, which may lead to serious vision loss.

Clinically, conjunctivitis can be divided into three categories according to its condition and course: acute, subacute and chronic; then according to the different causes, it can be divided into bacterial, viral, fungal and allergic, etc.; finally, according to the characteristics of conjunctival lesions, conjunctivitis is medically divided into acute follicular conjunctivitis, chronic follicular conjunctivitis, membranous and pseudomembranous conjunctivitis.

How to eliminate bloodshot? What should we pay attention to in the treatment of conjunctivitis?

First, patients with conjunctivitis will flush the conjunctival sac and clean it with normal saline, 2% to 3% boric acid solution, or 1:5000 to 1:10000 liters of mercury (or potassium permanganate) solution.

Secondly, during the treatment of conjunctivitis, it is strictly forbidden to cover the affected eye. We all know that when the eyes are inflamed, a lot of secretions will be produced. If the eyes with conjunctivitis are covered at this time, it will not only affect the discharge of secretions, but also cause the temperature of the conjunctival sac to rise, causing the growth and reproduction of bacteria, aggravating conjunctivitis.

Third, use antibacterial or antiviral eye drops to treat conjunctivitis. Choose appropriate treatment drugs according to different causes of the disease.

Finally, for individual patients with severe conjunctivitis, such as gonococcal conjunctivitis, systemic medication must be used in combination with treatment.

Of course, when facing the red blood streaks in the eyes, we must start with the cause of their appearance and prescribe the right medicine. Don’t ignore them just because they are minor daily problems. Although the blood streaks are small, they are related to eye vision after all. Therefore, we still remind you to pay attention to eye problems and don’t ignore the harm of red blood streaks.
