Facial twitching when nervous

Facial twitching when nervous

Emotions are a kind of bodily expression of people, which mainly occurs in people's faces and changes in heartbeat. Among them, facial expressions are the easiest to detect because emotions are shown on people's faces and conveyed to the outside world. Some people will show some abnormal symptoms when they are nervous, similar to the manifestations of diseases. Among them, what is the reason for facial twitching when they are nervous? Let’s take a look at the explanation below.

The onset is often paroxysmal mild twitching of the orbicularis oculi muscle of the lower eyelid, which gradually spreads to one side of the face, with twitching of the muscles at the corners of the mouth being the most obvious. The severity of twitches varies, and they become more severe when you are nervous, emotionally excited, or tired, and disappear when you are quiet or sleeping. In a few severe cases, facial muscle twitching can affect the entire facial muscles on one side. Convulsions are usually limited to one side; bilateral convulsions are very rare. Alcohol can be used for local blockade clinically, but it often leads to facial paralysis and is prone to recurrence. In recent years, drug blockade has been widely used in the blockade treatment of HFS. Compared with alcohol blockade, the incidence of complete facial paralysis is small and the effect is long-lasting. More than 90% of patients have varying degrees of improvement, and the drug effect can last for 3 to 4 months.

The reason is that when you are nervous, the human body releases a large amount of adrenaline, which causes the body to be in a state of stress, releases substances such as serotonin in the brain, causes abnormal discharge of brain cells, and the above phenomenon occurs. It is necessary to go to the neurology department of a regular hospital in time for electroencephalogram and head MRI examination to see if there is any mass in the brain tissue and whether the brain cells are discharging abnormally, so as to obtain timely treatment.

There is no specific treatment for hemifacial spasm in either traditional Chinese medicine (including acupuncture) or Western medicine. There are now surgical treatments such as facial nerve ligation, facial nerve combing, local botulinum toxin injection, etc. These must all be done in a regular medical setting.

Hemifacial spasm, also known as facial muscle twitching or hemifacial spasm, refers to paroxysmal, involuntary, irregular muscle twitching on one side of the face, without other positive signs of neurological damage. Now most general hospitals can treat this disease, but you must choose a regular hospital for appropriate treatment.
