There is mucus in the baby's poop

Babies generally suffer from indigestion. You should pay attention to massaging your baby's abdomen more often, which will help the baby's digestion. Breastfeeding mothers must pay attention to eating more easily digestible foods, drinking more boiled water, and eating more vegetables. You can also eat some bananas, which are more conducive to bowel movements. If the baby is really uncomfortable, it is recommended to give the baby some probiotics to regulate the intestines.

There is mucus in the baby's stool, which looks like snot, egg white or jelly. It is shiny when held up to the light, and some of it can be pulled out into long threads. It is very common for babies to have such stools soon after birth, and the chance of such stools occurring is higher around the time of teething. For some babies, their stools gradually take shape after adding complementary foods, and it is rare to find mucus, but occasionally a drier ball of mucus wrapped in stool can be found. For some babies, the symptoms will be more obvious after adding complementary foods, and may last until eight or nine months or even longer.

There is actually mucus in the stool of adults, but the amount is very small and mixed in with the stool, so it cannot be seen. Just like the nose secretes mucus, the intestinal mucosal epithelium also has mucus glands that secrete mucus, and goblet cells that secrete mucin (a glycoprotein), so the human intestines also secrete mucus like mucus. What is the function? It sticks to the surface of the intestinal mucosa, forming a physiological barrier that prevents the flora, food residues, and digestive gastrointestinal fluid from directly contacting the intestinal mucosal epithelium, ensuring that the living environment of the intestinal mucosal epithelial cells is basically stable. Mucus also contains many active substances that kill microorganisms, forming the first line of mucosal immune defense. It can also stick to these microorganisms and excrete them with feces. Mucus also combines well with normal flora, either adhering or integrating to form "membrane flora", which constitutes the intestinal microbial barrier, protecting the intestines and digesting food together. Under normal circumstances, the human nose produces several hundred milliliters of nasal mucus a day, but it is basically reabsorbed, evaporated, and dried into nasal scabs. The mucus produced by the human intestinal mucosal epithelium is also continuously recycled, and a small amount is excreted with feces. At the same time, the intestinal mucosal epithelial cells continue to age and fall off, mixed with the mucus and excreted with the feces.

If an infant or young child has been excreting grayish white stools since birth and has never had yellow stools, but his urine is yellow, it is likely caused by congenital bile duct obstruction. When infants and young children have intestinal infections, they have frequent bowel movements, loose or watery stools, smelly stools with mucus, and often experience vomiting, anorexia, fever, and even dehydration. The children should be taken to the hospital for examination in time.

Usually, we recommend that you first do a routine stool test to confirm the diagnosis, to see if the presence of white blood cells indicates indigestion or enteritis. Also pay attention to whether the intestinal dysfunction is caused by a cold. If it is indigestion, it is recommended to take Mommy Love, Smecta, etc. orally. If it is serious, see a doctor and receive intravenous treatment. Extend the time between feedings. Give your stomach and intestines a rest. Feed more water. If you are adding complementary foods, you should stop adding them. Or reduce the addition of complementary foods. After improvement, recover gradually. Especially avoid eating indigestible food.
