There is a foreign body sensation between the throat and chest

In our daily life, we eat a lot of food every day. Some people have the habit of overeating. Long-term irregular eating habits will cause some damage to the gastrointestinal tract and other parts. Many times, people will feel that there is always a foreign body sensation in the area between the throat and the chest, as if something is stuck there. When this phenomenon occurs, it is very likely that you are suffering from esophageal reflux.

The foreign body sensation between the throat and chest is often due to bacterial infection or pharyngitis caused by esophageal reflux. It is recommended that you pay attention to eating light and easy to digest food, quit smoking, drinking, spicy food, avoid overeating, and you need to go to the ENT department for a physical examination and do a gastroscopy and other examinations to clarify the situation, and take treatment measures according to the actual condition.

Symptoms of esophageal reflux

1. There is no correlation between the severity of esophagitis and reflux symptoms. Patients with reflux esophagitis show typical symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux, but may also have no reflux symptoms and only show symptoms of indigestion such as upper abdominal pain and discomfort. The clinical manifestations of patients with severe esophagitis are not necessarily serious.

2. Typical symptoms include a burning sensation behind the sternum (heartburn), regurgitation, and chest pain. Heartburn refers to a burning sensation behind the sternum radiating to the neck, and regurgitation refers to the reflux of gastric contents into the pharynx or mouth. Reflux symptoms often occur after a full meal, and severe reflux at night affects the patient's sleep.

3. In the later stages of the disease, the esophagus becomes narrow due to scarring, and the burning sensation and burning pain gradually subside, but permanent difficulty in swallowing occurs, which may cause a feeling of blockage or pain when eating solid food.

4. Severe esophagitis may cause erosion of the esophageal mucosa and bleeding, which is mostly chronic and small-scale bleeding. Prolonged or heavy bleeding can lead to iron deficiency anemia.

Prevention methods

1. Avoid drinking and quitting smoking: Tobacco contains nicotine, which can reduce the pressure of the lower esophageal sphincter, causing it to relax and aggravate reflux. The main component of alcohol is ethanol, which not only stimulates gastric acid secretion, but also relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter, which is one of the causes of gastroesophageal reflux.

2. Pay attention to eating small meals frequently and eating a low-fat diet to reduce the frequency of reflux symptoms after eating. On the contrary, a high-fat diet can promote the release of cholecystokinin from the small intestinal mucosa, which can easily lead to reflux of gastrointestinal contents.

3. Do not eat too much for dinner and avoid lying down immediately after a meal.

4. Obese people should lose weight. Because excessive obesity increases abdominal pressure, which can promote gastric reflux, especially in the supine position, it is more serious. Therefore, people should actively lose weight to improve reflux symptoms.

5. Keep a good mood and increase appropriate physical exercise.

6. When going to bed, the head of the bed should be raised 10 to 15 cm, which is an effective way to reduce nocturnal reflux.

7. Try to minimize activities that increase intra-abdominal pressure, such as excessive bending over, wearing tight clothes, and tightening the belt.

8. Medication should be taken under the guidance of a doctor to avoid side effects caused by taking medication indiscriminately.
