Things to note when using nasal spray

The current living environment is affected by air pollution, haze and other problems, and the number of people suffering from rhinitis is increasing day by day. But we are faced with a variety of medicines for treating rhinitis and we don’t know where to start. We don’t know how to choose the one that is suitable for us. Generally, when rhinitis occurs, everyone hopes to have a simple treatment that will not affect their life or work, so most people will choose rhinitis spray. So what should we pay attention to when using nasal spray?

Rhinitis is a disease that is prone to recurrence and difficult to eradicate. When treating this disease, medication should be used under the guidance of a professional doctor. Common rhinitis sprays in clinical practice include nasal hormones (fluticasone acid nasal spray, mometasone furoate nasal spray, budesonide nasal spray), antihistamines, drugs that reduce nasal congestion, etc.

In clinical practice, rhinitis is a common respiratory disease, including viral dermatitis, allergic dermatitis and other types. Rhinitis can cause nasal congestion, runny nose, and loss of smell. Long-term uncured patients may even develop cancer. Symptomatic treatment is very critical. So what are the commonly used rhinitis sprays in clinical practice? Here we will introduce some relevant knowledge to you.

1. What are the nasal sprays? Commonly used nasal sprays and how to use them :

1. Nasal hormones. The drugs commonly used in clinical practice mainly include fluticasone propionate nasal spray, mometasone furoate nasal spray, budesonide nasal spray, etc. These drugs have very strong anti-inflammatory effects and also have anti-allergic effects. Usually, patients with rhinitis can take the drugs continuously for three months. Correct use of the drugs generally has no harm to the body.

2. Antihistamine drugs, including levocabastine nasal spray, azostine nasal spray, etc. The main effects and functions include anti-allergic reactions. It is mostly used to treat mild to moderate allergic rhinitis. It can have a good therapeutic effect on symptoms such as nasal itching and sneezing caused by rhinitis.

3. Nasal decongestants. Commonly used rhinitis sprays include xylometazoline nasal spray and oxymetazoline. The drug theory is to constrict the blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, thereby improving nasal ventilation. It is mostly used to treat acute rhinitis, severe nasal congestion and other symptoms. It should be noted that this type of drug should not be used continuously for more than one week.

2. Indiscriminate use of sprays for rhinitis is very harmful:

1. Long-term use of drugs for the treatment of rhinitis can cause many different adverse reactions, depending on the specific medication used, such as liver and kidney damage, gastrointestinal discomfort and rash, headache and dizziness, endocrine disorders, etc.

2. Because local drugs stimulate blood vessel contraction, the blood vessels are kept in a state of contraction and expansion for a long time, and the elasticity of the blood vessel walls is weakened, becoming thinner and more brittle, resulting in vascular sclerosis.

3. Locally damage the ciliary structure of the nasal mucosa, thereby affecting the physiological function of the nasal mucosa. The blood vessels contract and then expand, causing repeated stimulation. The mucosal cilia stop moving, or even necrotize and disappear. Plasma exudes from the submucosal layer, forming edema, causing recurrent nasal inflammation, tissue adhesions, and worsening of the condition.

4. The most frightening thing is that improper use may cause drug-induced rhinitis, hypertension, etc. Naphazoline nasal drops are an adrenaline-mimetic drug, but their effects are stronger and more lasting than adrenaline. Long-term use can reduce local blood flow. The temperature difference between indoor and outdoor should not be too large. Decreased mucosal resistance causes secondary infection or drug-induced rhinitis.

Therefore, patients with rhinitis must first choose the right medicine under the guidance of a professional doctor. Before using these rhinitis sprays, you should gently shake the bottle to mix the medicine thoroughly. You don't need to tilt your head back when spraying, just keep your head in a natural position. Because the inside of the nasal cavity is our nasal septum tissue, there is no need to point the spray head toward the inside of the nasal cavity to prevent the medicine from spraying on the nasal septum. After spraying, you can inhale gently, wipe the spray head with a clean tissue, and then cover the bottle cap.

The above is the knowledge about rhinitis spray introduced to you today. After reading it, it will be of great help in the treatment of rhinitis. In order to cure the disease as soon as possible, rhinitis patients, in addition to choosing medications under the guidance of professional doctors, should also pay attention to correcting bad living habits, especially wearing masks when going out, which can better reduce irritation to the nasal mucosa and thus reduce discomfort symptoms.
