How often do you donate blood

Donating blood is not actually an obligation. In many places, there are organizations for voluntary blood donation. As we all know, the blood in our body can actually regenerate, and donating blood will not have much impact on our body, but for some critically ill patients, this blood may be the key to saving lives. Although donating blood is a very honorable thing, do you know how often you should donate blood?

The total blood volume of an adult is about 4000-5000 ml. If you donate 200-400 ml of blood at a time, it only accounts for 5% of the total blood volume. After donating blood, the human body will self-regulate, so that the blood flow will quickly return to normal, and it will also stimulate the body's hematopoietic function. Donated blood is usually stored in a blood bank for use when someone needs it. Compared with paid blood donation, the quality of blood can be guaranteed in voluntary blood donation, which is more beneficial to the health and safety of the recipients. Blood donors can donate blood at blood donation stations, blood donation rooms, and blood donation vehicles. There are still some things people need to pay attention to when donating blood.

When donating blood voluntarily, you need to understand these 4 aspects first. How often is it best to donate blood?

1. First of all, you must bring your ID card or other identification before donating blood.

2. It is best to take a shower before donating blood, especially to ensure that the elbows are clean. The night before donating blood, you should go to bed early and ensure adequate sleep. In the two days before donating blood, it is best to eat less greasy food and avoid high-fat or high-protein food to prevent blood turbidity. You must eat breakfast before donating blood, but be careful not to eat eggs. Replenish an appropriate amount of water to ensure that the blood is not too viscous. Do not drink alcohol the day before or on the day of your blood donation.

3. Before donating blood, you must maintain a good and relaxed mood and don't be too nervous. If you have symptoms such as cold or fever in the next two days, or if you are a woman in the three days before or after your menstrual period, you are not suitable for blood donation.

4. When donating blood, be sure to follow the instructions of medical staff. A series of physical examinations and blood tests are performed before donating blood. If your weight, blood pressure, blood type, or liver function is not up to standard, you cannot donate blood.

Voluntary blood donation is divided into two types: donating whole blood and donating blood components. Our country's blood donation law has clear regulations on blood donation. The amount of blood donated at one time is 200-400 ml. The interval between two blood donations must not be less than six months. If you are donating blood components, the blood components can be platelets, granulocytes, plasma or hematopoietic stem cells. If you only donate blood components, the interval must not be less than half a month.
