How to store okra? Can it be frozen?

Okra can be frozen. The quick freezing method of okra has no effect on the fruit. The okra fruits were kept fresh by quick freezing (-18℃) to study its effect on the main qualities of the fruits and their storage period. The results showed that the shelf life of okra could reach 9 months after blanching and quick freezing, among which the blanching time of 0.5 to 1 min had the most significant effect. Soak the fruit in 20% CaCl solution for 20 minutes, blanch it and then quickly freeze it, which can better keep the color and crispness of the product. The fruits are vacuum packed after quick freezing to minimize nutrient loss during storage.

At the same time, it should be noted that because okra is very easy to be scratched and it will turn black quickly after being scratched, it should be picked and placed individually when selecting or storing, and not squeezed. It is best to put them in plastic bags before putting them in the refrigerator and try to keep them lying flat.

It is best to eat it on the same day you buy it. If you need to preserve it, you can wrap it in white newspaper, cover it with a layer of plastic bag or plastic wrap, and then refrigerate it. (It is recommended to eat it within two days, otherwise it will easily become old). When storing it, you need to be careful. If the temperature is high, the okra will quickly rot and deteriorate. It is best not to keep it in direct contact with ice cubes or ice water when storing it, because the low temperature environment will quickly make the okra soft and rotten.

Okra can be stored frozen. The okra fruit was kept fresh by quick freezing (-18℃). The effect on the main qualities of the fruit and its storage period were studied. If okra is exposed to higher temperatures, its respiration is quite fast, which causes its tissues to age and turn yellow quickly, leading to corruption and decay. A large number of scientific experiments have confirmed that okra is best stored in an environment of 7°C to 10°C, and fresh okra has a storage period of about 10 days.
