What are the dangers of spleen enlargement

In life, the organs that people are most familiar with are probably the liver, stomach and other human organs. The spleen, the most important lymphatic organ in the human body, does not appear so frequently in people's field of vision. The organs inside the human body cooperate and interact with each other. When other organs are diseased, the spleen will cause enlargement. An enlarged spleen means that an organ inside the body has been diseased, and you should go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible. So what are the dangers of an enlarged spleen?

Splenomegaly is an important pathological sign. Under normal circumstances, the spleen cannot be felt in the abdomen. If the edge of the spleen can be felt in the supine or lateral position, it is considered to be splenomegaly. An increase in spleen size is a cardinal manifestation of spleen disease. There are two causes of splenomegaly: one is infectious splenomegaly; the other is non-infectious splenomegaly.

The degree of spleen enlargement is related to the disease. Mild splenomegaly: When the lower edge of the spleen is 2 to 3 cm below the costal margin during a deep breath, it is considered mild splenomegaly. It can be seen in certain viral infections, bacterial infections, rickettsial infections, congestive heart failure, portal hypertension in cirrhosis, Hodgkin's disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, tropical eosinophilia, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, etc. Moderate splenomegaly is defined as a lower edge that extends 3 cm below the costal margin to the level of the navel. It can be seen in acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphocytic leukemia, chronic hemolytic anemia, infectious mononucleosis, splenic amyloidosis, malignant lymphoma, Niemann-Pick disease, etc. Extreme splenomegaly or splenomegaly is when the lower edge of the spleen extends below the level of the umbilicus. It can be seen in chronic myeloid leukemia, chronic malaria, late-stage schistosomiasis, polycythemia vera, thalassemia, etc.

The texture of splenomegaly may change to varying degrees due to different causes. Generally, splenomegaly caused by acute infection has a soft texture; splenomegaly caused by chronic infection, leukemia cells, and tumor cell infiltration has a hard texture and an uneven surface; the spleen caused by cirrhosis has a moderately hard texture; the texture of splenomegaly due to congestive disease varies depending on the degree of congestion and the duration of congestion. If the duration is short and the congestion is mild, the texture is soft; if the duration is long or the congestion is severe, the texture is hard, but generally feels full. Cystic swellings have a cystic feel and an uneven surface.
