How to correct anisometropia

How to correct anisometropia

If the two eyes of a person have different refractive states, then anisometropia has been formed. Most people have some slight deviations in the refractive state of their two eyes, and there are many types of anisometropia, such as physiological and pathological. The cause of anisometropia is the increasing degree of myopia or developmental problems. So how should anisometropia be corrected?

First, how to correct anisometropia? The easiest way to treat anisometropia is to wear frame glasses. Children have greater adaptability and plasticity and can accept frame glasses better. They can be prescribed according to needs during the trial. Anisometropia below 6.00D should be actively fully corrected or as close to full correction as possible, and should not be bound by the principle of not exceeding 2.50D. Chen et al. used glasses to correct untreated anisometropia in children aged 3 to 7 years old, and their vision was improved by about 4 lines, and almost half of them were completely cured. If vision has not improved after 4 months, occlusion therapy or atropine suppression therapy should be considered.

Second, the principles of glasses correction ① Children under 12 years old should correct all their refractive errors as early as possible to consolidate their binocular vision and prevent the occurrence and development of strabismus and amblyopia. ②Adults with binocular single vision can have it completely corrected. ③ Young people with alternating vision and visual fatigue can be given full correction, while elderly people without visual fatigue do not need to be given full correction. ④ A thorough eye muscle balance examination should be carried out at the same time, and anyone with posterior strabismus muscle imbalance should be given treatment as appropriate. ⑤ The correction effect of corneal contact lenses is better than that of frame glasses. If conditions permit, corneal contact lenses can be chosen. 2 Occlusion therapy and drug treatment of anisometropic amblyopia is not only corrected by wearing glasses, but also includes occlusion therapy, atropine suppression therapy, etc. The principle of occlusion therapy for anisometropic amblyopia is to cover the healthy eye or the better eye to slow down or eliminate the inhibitory effect on the amblyopic eye, increase the use of the amblyopic eye, and thus improve the vision of the amblyopic eye. Its effectiveness has been recognized.

How to correct anisometropia? Contact lenses. Currently, the methods for correcting binocular anisometropia include frame glasses, RGP, refractive surgery, etc. The effect of correcting anisometropia with corneal contact lenses is the most obvious. Because the contact lens is worn on the surface of the cornea, the size of the image is close to that of the emmetropia eye, and no prism effect is produced when the eyeball rotates, so it can correct moderate to high refractive anisometropia. Studies have found that people who wear highly oxygen-permeable rigid corneal contact lenses (RGP) are better than those who wear traditional frame glasses in terms of the time and degree of development of stereoscopic vision function. The reasons may be: using contact lenses to correct refractive errors will not cause the optical deficiencies unique to wearing frame glasses, especially full correction of eyes with higher degrees of hyperopia, blurred images on the retina become clear, abnormal visual stimulation is transformed into normal visual stimulation, and the visual deprivation of the amblyopic eye is relieved. The functions of the visual pathways and visual cortex can fully develop and return to normal, providing conditions for the development of stereoscopic vision function.
