Artificial rainfall is achieved by launching rockets into clouds and using the shock waves generated to create rain. Certain catalysts are needed when making artificial rain. Generally speaking, the most commonly used catalyst is dry ice. But cloud seeding can also be harmful. So, what are the dangers of artificial rainfall?

There are two methods of artificial rainfall: one is to spread coolant from airplanes; the other is to fire cannons or rockets into the clouds to generate a powerful shock wave. At present, my country mainly uses two types of catalysts for artificial rainfall: one is dry ice, which cools the surrounding air layer to dozens of degrees below zero when vaporized, thereby causing the condensation of water droplets; the second is silver iodide, which has a first-class ability to "make rain". Dry ice is actually carbon dioxide. As a chemical substance, silver iodide has extremely low toxicity. In addition, silver iodide is very efficient in producing ice crystals. Usually, it only takes a dozen grams or dozens of grams to make a cumuliform cloud. The amount dropped is very low and almost negligible, so it will not cause any pollution. The principle of artificial rainfall is to artificially force the water vapor in the clouds to fall into rain. The water vapor itself is not abundant, so the probability of causing heavy rain is very small.

1. From a meteorological point of view, before it rains, observe the shape of the clouds in the sky. If there are no cumulonimbus clouds, it will not rain. Cumulonimbus clouds are divided into cumulonimbus congestus and cumulonimbus light. At first there are cumulonimbus light clouds, then cumulonimbus congestus clouds, and then they form an inverted triangle shape and it starts to rain. Strong gusts of wind also form at this time.

2. Please note that in general, strong winds are definitely not artificial rainfall. Artificial rainfall is the use of chemical reagents to condense water vapor, which is essentially no different from real rain. Therefore, the shape of the clouds before it rains can tell whether it is real rain.

3. Conditions for artificial rainfall

Artificial rainfall cannot be achieved whenever you want. You also need to observe the weather conditions and choose the right weather to make rainfall. In some cases, it is difficult to make rainfall successfully when the temperature is obviously very high and the weather is hot, with little water.

The principle of artificial rainfall is to make the water droplets in cumulonimbus clouds larger and fall down. Artificial rainfall with antiaircraft guns is to fire shells containing silver iodide into the air at an altitude of 4,000 to 5,000 meters where there are a large number of cumulonimbus clouds. The silver iodide diffuses at high altitudes and becomes the condensation nuclei of water droplets in the clouds. Then the surrounding water droplets condense and become heavy droplets for rainfall.
