Where is the coccyx

Our coccyx is connected to our lumbar spine, and they are both important bones for our body. If we are injured, the coccyx is also a position that is more susceptible to injury. Generally, when the vertebrae are painful, we will feel very uncomfortable when sitting. In addition, the range of motion of the coccyx of men and women is different. So where is the coccyx?

Where is the coccyx?

The coccyx is located below the sacrum, which is the most tail end of the spine. It is the last piece of the spine. If you feel along the spine, it is the last piece. Its proximal end is connected to the healthy bone by fibrous cartilage. Usually, the range of motion of this joint is greater in women than in men, especially during pregnancy.

The human tail has degenerated and is useless externally, but the coccyx remains. The number of coccyx varies. The coccyx is usually composed of three to four small bones connected to the sacrum to form the sacrococcygeal joint. There is also an intercoccygeal joint between the coccygeal bones. The coccyx itself has the coccygeal ligament, gluteus major, coccygeal muscle, anal sphincter and levator ani muscle attached to it. In men, the position of the coccyx is higher than the ischial tuberosity, so it is better protected when hit. In women, because the pelvic cavity is wider and flatter, the coccyx is relatively easy to be injured when falling.

The coccyx is located on the surface of the body behind the anus between the gluteus maximus on both sides. The bones in this area are called coccyx. There is no spinal cord inside the coccyx, but it is the attachment point for many ligaments in the pelvis and plays an important supporting role in supporting the organs in the pelvis. Because of the great stress, the coccyx is prone to inflammation and pain. To treat the pain of coccyx, conservative treatment is usually adopted, including bed rest, local application of anti-inflammatory and analgesic plasters, and closed treatment when necessary.
