The efficacy and function of chamomile

Everyone is familiar with chrysanthemum, and many people like to drink chrysanthemum tea, which not only tastes fragrant, but also has the effects of removing fire, clearing heat and disinfecting. However, many people have not heard of chamomile. Chamomile is a traditional Chinese medicinal material that has the effects of relieving asthma, relieving cough and relieving fever. It also has anti-inflammatory effects. Below, I will introduce to you what chamomile is, as well as the effects and functions of chamomile.

1. Matricaria

Annual herb, the whole plant is glabrous. The stem is 30-40 cm tall, grooved, and has many branches at the top. The lower leaves are rectangular or oblanceolate, 3-4 cm long, 1.5-2 cm wide, bipinnately divided, sessile, slightly enlarged at the base, with linear lobes and a short pointed tip. The upper leaves are ovate or oblong.

2. Anti-inflammatory Effect

Both orchid oil and its synthetic derivative guaiachuang have anti-inflammatory effects. Guaichuang has a significant inhibitory effect on dextran edema in rats, but only moderate inhibition on hyaluronidase, formaldehyde, and histamine edema. It is speculated that these drugs can inhibit the release of histamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine, and have anti-histamine and anti-hyaluronic acid effects, thereby reducing the permeability of capillaries. Chamomile can enhance the regeneration process, weaken allergic reactions, and has certain local anesthetic effects. It can be used for bronchial asthma, rheumatic fever, allergic gastroenteritis, eczema, etc.

3. Antispasmodic effect

Matricaria can inhibit the isolated intestine of rabbits and isolated bronchi of guinea pigs, and reduce the tracheal secretion of rabbits. It has a preventive effect on histamine asthma in guinea pigs. The apigenin (Apiin) and its aglycone flavonoids (Apigenin, Gerniarin) contained in it have a moderate antispasmodic effect on smooth muscle.

4. Other functions

Maternity chamomile can constrict the blood vessels in the lower limbs of toads, has a transient pressor effect on rabbits, has a cooling effect on feverish rabbits, can promote the healing of skin ulcers in mice, and enhance the function of the reticuloendothelial system of rabbits. The volatile oil part has certain disinfecting effect; its antibacterial effect on larval Bacillus is stronger than that of garlic; large amount can cause vomiting. Oral administration of an infusion of the flowers of another plant, Matricaria officinalis, to dogs can significantly promote the excretion of bile by the liver.
