The reaction after gastroscopy was like this

Gastroscopy is a must-do examination for many patients with stomach problems, but people are not very clear about the reactions after gastroscopy. In fact, some people may feel like vomiting after gastroscopy. At this time, do not get out of bed immediately to avoid fainting. Some people may experience pain, which usually disappears within two hours. If the pain lasts for more than four hours, medical treatment is required.

Things to note after gastroscopy

1. After completing the gastroscopy, there will be pain in the throat. At this time, you can take some watermelon frost lozenges or coral grass lozenges to relieve the symptoms.

2. Within half an hour after the gastroscopy, the pharyngeal anesthetic is still taking effect. Do not drink water or eat food during this period to avoid accidental entry of water into the trachea causing choking or aspiration pneumonia. You can eat warm liquid or semi-liquid food 1 to 2 hours after the examination, and you can resume normal diet the next day.

3. Throat pain caused by the examination and a small amount of bleeding after taking gastric mucosal samples can mostly heal on their own, so there is no need to worry. If black stool is found after the examination, you should go to the hospital for medical treatment.

4. Patients who have undergone biopsy (especially the elderly) should eat a semi-liquid diet within 1 to 2 days after the examination and avoid eating raw, cold, hard and irritating foods. Do not smoke, drink alcohol, or drink strong tea or strong coffee to avoid inducing bleeding from the wound.

5. Although gastroscopy is a more convenient examination method, it is indeed a traumatic examination method, so the doctor will give the patient general anesthesia or local anesthesia.

About one hour after the gastroscopy, the effect of the anesthetic has not completely subsided. At this time, you cannot eat or drink water to avoid the swallowing function of the throat not fully recovering, choking, or even aspiration pneumonia.

6. Since the throat wall and gastric mucosa may be traumatized during the examination, it is advisable to eat some soft liquid or semi-liquid food after the examination, such as milk, porridge, etc. Be careful not to eat too hot, just warm food is fine, so as not to aggravate the damage to the mucosa.

7. During the examination, the doctor will inject some air into the abdominal cavity to make it expand slightly, which may cause belching or bloating. This is a normal reaction and there is no need to panic.

8. In order to help repair the gastric mucosa damaged during the examination, you can eat some stomach-nourishing foods, such as millet porridge, but be sure to avoid spicy, stimulating, fried and rough foods.

9. Within three days after the examination, pay attention to whether the color of the stool is normal. If tarry stool appears, it means upper gastrointestinal bleeding and you should seek medical attention immediately.

Gastroscopy is currently the best method for diagnosing gastric and duodenal diseases, especially peptic ulcers and cancer. Although gastroscopy has the advantages of being safe, easy to operate, and highly applicable, its safety and correctness of the assessment require the patient's cooperation.
