Symptoms of neurological facial paralysis

Symptoms of neurological facial paralysis

Many people will find that their bodies are affected by various diseases when the seasons change, such as neurological facial paralysis. After this disease occurs, patients will feel that their mouth and eyes are crooked, facial tissues cannot move freely, and saliva flows. These are very typical clinical symptoms of neurological facial paralysis, so it is necessary to improve them through treatment. Acupuncture and massage techniques can be used for treatment.

Most patients often find that one side of their cheek becomes stiff and their mouth becomes crooked when they wash their face or rinse their mouth in the early morning. In patients with complete paralysis of the facial expression muscles on the affected side, forehead wrinkles disappear, palpebral fissures widen, nasolabial grooves become flat, corners of the mouth droop, and the corners of the mouth deviate toward the healthy side when teeth are exposed. The affected side should not frown, knit brows, close eyes, puff out air, or purse lips. When puffing out cheeks and whistling, air leaks out because the lips on the affected side cannot close. When eating, food residues often remain in the buccal space on the affected side, and saliva often flows down from that side. Because the lacrimal points are turned inward with the lower eyelid, the tears cannot be drained normally and overflow.

It is divided into two types: peripheral and central. Among them, peripheral facial paralysis has a high incidence rate, and the most common ones are facial neuritis or Bell's palsy. What people usually call facial paralysis in most cases refers to facial neuritis. Because facial paralysis can cause a very strange facial appearance, it is often called a "disfiguring disease."

The root cause of facial paralysis is that the dislocation and crookedness of the cervical vertebrae compresses the nerves and causes nerve spasm and paralysis of the facial nerves, resulting in complete paralysis of the facial muscles, disappearance of forehead wrinkles, widening of the palpebral fissure, flattening of the nasolabial groove, drooping corners of the mouth, and the corners of the mouth deviating to the healthy side when the teeth are shown.

Psychological factors can easily cause facial paralysis: Surveys show that psychological factors are one of the important factors causing facial nerve paralysis. Before facial nerve paralysis occurs, a considerable number of patients suffer from physical fatigue, lack of sleep, mental tension and physical discomfort.

You should pay attention to maintaining a good mood: The best way to prevent facial paralysis is to pay attention to maintaining a good mood, ensure adequate sleep, and engage in appropriate physical exercise to enhance the body's immunity.

Symptoms of Bell's palsy (facial paralysis)

1. Paralysis of the facial expression muscles on one side (occasionally bilaterally) (frontal wrinkles on the affected side become lighter or disappear, palpebral fissure widens, eyelid closure is incomplete, nasolabial groove becomes shallower, the corner of the mouth deviates toward the healthy side, and air leaks from the corner of the mouth on the affected side when the cheeks are puffed out).

2. At the beginning of the disease, there is often pain around the ear. Some patients experience severe pain in the Yifeng point behind the ear, and even transdermal referred pain.

3. It may be accompanied by decreased taste in the anterior 2/3 of the tongue on the affected side, hyperacusis, hearing loss, etc.
