In children's hospitals, we often see many children receiving intravenous drips, and they do not need injections every day. The doctor will leave a retention needle on the back of the hand of younger children. Every day, they only need to insert the required liquid medicine. It seems very convenient, but the side effects of retention needles should also be understood. For example, if the retention needle is used multiple times, the patient will experience swelling on the back of the hand and may also cause damage to the blood vessels. A retention needle refers to a needle that is inserted into the blood vessel once during long-term intravenous drips and can be reused multiple times. It can reduce the pain of multiple injections for patients, especially for patients with edema. The duration of intravenous catheter retention can be as short as one day or as long as 27 days. Zhao Gaiting suggested retaining the tube for 96 hours through animal experiments. Qi Hong believed that retaining the tube for 7 days was completely feasible as long as the puncture site was kept relatively sterile and the surrounding skin was clean, and there was no blockage or leakage. Li Xiaoyan et al. observed 50 patients with indwelling trocars, with an average indwelling period of 8-9 days, and the longest being 27 days, without a single case of infection. The GARLAND study believes that with proper monitoring, peripheral Teflon catheters can be safely retained for up to 144 hours. Huang Liyun et al. believe that they can be retained in the blood vessels for 5-7 days. Zhai Xianggui and others believe that the best retention time is about 15 days. If it is an adult, and the retention site is appropriate, the local area is well maintained, and there is no inflammatory reaction, the retention time can be appropriately extended. The indwelling needle cannot be left in for more than a few days, it needs to be checked every day. It can protect blood vessels, reduce damage to blood vessels, and reduce the chance of thrombosis. 1. Generally, commonly used soft tube retention needles can be used for three days. If a child needs intravenous infusion for several days, the child will feel very uncomfortable if he is pricked with a disposable hard tube needle. Most importantly, children are more resistant to injections, so every time they are pricked, they will cry, which not only wastes the time of medical staff, but also makes the child suffer. 2. The hose retention needle is not easy to move, and it will not affect children's eating, drinking and playing. Disposable hard-tube needles cannot be fixed well, and if the child's hands move around, it will cause blisters on the hands. 3. Retention needles are more suitable for children and generally have no side effects. |
