What to do if you eat uncooked pork

When eating pork, you must make sure it is cooked before eating. If you accidentally eat uncooked pork, don't worry too much. Generally speaking, it will not cause adverse effects on your health. Of course, children should pay attention to this aspect, especially to prevent some intestinal parasites. After children eat such meat, you can take the children for blood and stool tests after 1 to 2 months, and they can also take some anthelmintic drugs.

What to do if you eat undercooked pork

1. When we were little, my brother and I liked to steal the stuffings that the adults prepared when making dumplings. Just a little bit at a time just for fun. At that time, I didn’t know much about hygiene issues, so I just got by. So generally speaking, there is no problem.

2. Normal pork does not contain parasites. Even if it does, they will be eliminated by a human body with a normal immune system.

3. If you are really scared, you can go to the hospital to have your stool and blood tested after two months. If there is a problem, take some anthelmintic and it will be fine.

4. Children have poor resistance. If they have obvious symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, vomiting, etc., it means they are infected with bacteria. Go to the hospital for treatment immediately.

5. High-temperature steaming is currently the safest and healthiest cooking method. I hope everyone will keep an eye on their children and try to eat less street snacks such as barbecue, fried skewers, and spicy hot pot.

Can you get sick from eating undercooked pork?

The good news is that the incidence of this infectious disease has been greatly reduced compared to before. According to the CDC, cases of trichinosis are becoming less common than they were a few decades ago, likely due to improved pork production regulations. Instead, most current sources of infection are from eating raw or undercooked game, such as wild boar or bear.

"Trichinella infection can cause a range of symptoms, from chronic to fatal," says Nipunie Rajapakse, MD, pediatric infectious disease specialist at Mayo Clinic. "The most common symptoms include fever, aches and pains, and nausea. In later stages of the infection, muscle pain and swelling of the face and eyes may also occur."

"Making sure all food is fully cooked is the best way to avoid the disease. While it won't guarantee 100% protection, it will significantly reduce the risk of infection with Trichinella. This is because the parasite is heat-sensitive and can be easily killed by heating."

Trichinosis does not spread from person to person, so the disease can only be caused by eating inadequately processed meat products contaminated with Trichinella spiralis.
