My eyes are burning with pain

When people describe eyes, they always say that eyes are the windows to the soul. People see the world through their eyes, and a person's eyes can also reflect his or her innermost thoughts. Nowadays, there are more and more electronic products, and people are exposed to a lot of light pollution. Sometimes, without realizing it, the eyes will feel uncomfortable for no reason, or even burning pain. Let's find out what causes this.

Living in the Internet age, we are surrounded by a large amount of information every day, and Internet disconnection has become a nightmare signal. We have already achieved the state of checking our phones on the way, using computers at work, and seamlessly connecting to the Internet while our eyes are open. But what may follow is troubles such as dry eyes that you don’t want to encounter!

At the same time, summer is also the peak season for dry eye syndrome, as the indoor dryness caused by air conditioning and the radiation from electronic products such as computers in the office environment lead to rapid evaporation of tears.

In order to keep the eyes moist, the tear glands of people continuously secrete tears every day. Dry eye syndrome will cause the eyeball to lack the moisture of the tear film. If it is not treated in time, it will develop into severe dry eye syndrome, which may cause keratitis and corneal ulcers, resulting in decreased vision or even blindness.

There are many causes of dry eyes, some of which are congenital, while the more common ones are acquired, such as aging, environmental pollution, excessive use of eyes, and long-term wearing of contact lenses.

Dry eye syndrome refers to a general term for a variety of diseases characterized by abnormal tear quality, quantity or dynamics caused by any reason, resulting in decreased tear film stability and accompanied by eye discomfort and/or damage to ocular surface tissue. It is also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca.

There are mainly the following types of dry eye: aqueous deficiency type: often caused by Sjogren's syndrome and systemic factors; excessive evaporation type: often caused by meibomian gland dysfunction, blepharitis, eyelid coloboma, video terminal syndrome; mucin deficiency type: often caused by drug toxicity, chemical injury, and thermal burns; abnormal tear dynamics type: common symptoms include abnormal blinking, conjunctival relaxation, and delayed tear discharge; mixed type: caused by two or more other reasons.

If your eyes are in discomfort for a long time, you need to go to the hospital for examination and do not use eye drops without authorization. Most eye drops on the market contain preservatives, and long-term use may cause other eye problems. It is recommended to use preservative-free artificial tears, such as polyvinyl alcohol and polyethylene glycol, which simulate the various components of human tears. They can be discontinued after the symptoms are relieved and are suitable for a variety of people.

Preventive measures: Avoid using the computer for long periods of time, keep a distance from the screen (more than 30 cm), make the angle between your eyes and the monitor look down, and develop the habit of blinking frequently while concentrating.

It is not recommended to wear contact lenses for a long time. Pay attention to lens cleaning and care when wearing them.

Regularly applying hot towels or using steam eye masks while massaging your eyes can increase blood circulation in the eyes and relieve symptoms of fatigue.

Get enough sleep and avoid staying up late; especially avoid excessive use of mobile phones in a dark room (after turning off the lights).

Eat more foods rich in vitamins A, C, and D, such as carrots, fruits, seafood, etc., to appropriately supplement the calcium content.
