Lumbar vertebrae bone hyperplasia is a common disease among middle-aged and elderly people. Symptoms include swelling, soreness, and stiffness. Severe bending over will be affected. Common causes of lumbar vertebrae bone hyperplasia are age factors, excessive fatigue, etc. Everyone should take precautions. 1. The most common sites for vertebral hyperplasia are L3 and L4. Clinically, symptoms such as soreness, distension, stiffness, fatigue in the lumbar spine and lumbar soft tissues, and even limited bending ability are common. If the adjacent nerve roots are compressed, it may cause corresponding symptoms, such as local pain, stiffness, posterior root neuralgia, numbness, etc. Compression of the sciatic nerve can cause sciatica, which can cause severe numbness, burning pain, cramping pain, and stringy pain in the affected limb, radiating to the entire lower limb. Lumbar vertebrae bone hyperplasia develops slowly, and the early symptoms are mild and not easily taken seriously. They only manifest as soreness in the waist and legs, which may be mild or severe at times. The pain is especially obvious after sitting for a long time, being tired, or when getting up in the morning. The pain is relieved after proper activity or rest. 2. When the intervertebral disc degenerates, the vertebral body becomes deformed, and the space between adjacent vertebrae becomes loose and unstable. When moving, the waist becomes stiff, painful and weak. The stimulation of osteophytes formed after degeneration can make the stiffness of the waist more obvious, which is more severe when resting, relieved after a little activity, and aggravated by overwork. Once the hyperplasia compresses the spinal nerves, it can cause radiating pain in the waist, and may also cause low back pain, leg pain and numbness in the lower limbs. If the posterior edge of the vertebral body proliferates and causes spinal canal stenosis, it will compress the cauda equina and cause cauda equina compression syndrome, with clinical symptoms of intermittent claudication. When the front and side of the vertebral body proliferate, it can compress and stimulate nearby blood vessels and autonomic nerves, causing functional disorders. 3. Causes (I) Age factors: Human aging is an irresistible natural law. As age increases, the lumbar spine will inevitably undergo degenerative changes due to exercise wear. Most normal people over 60 years old can be found to have lumbar bone spurs, intervertebral disc narrowing and other degenerative aging phenomena when taking X-rays. (2) Strain factors: The degeneration process of the lumbar spine, in addition to changes with age, is also closely related to lumbar strain. Long-term stimulation of the lumbar spine by adverse factors such as repeated strain and excessive activity may accelerate the degeneration of the lumbar spine, causing herniated discs and the formation and continuous enlargement of bone spurs. On the contrary, paying attention to rest and maintenance of the waist can slow down the degeneration of the lumbar spine and the progression of bone spurs. (III) Traumatic history: Lumbar trauma in adolescence is also an important external cause of lumbar bone hyperplasia after middle age. |
