What to do with pigmentation after burns

What to do with pigmentation after burns

In life, for patients with burns, if the burns are not serious and the wounds are not particularly large, there is generally no need to go to the hospital for treatment. For small burns, the skin has the ability to heal itself. However, some people find that after a period of time, the color of the skin in the burned area is different from that of other parts of the body. In fact, this is caused by pigmentation. So what should we do about pigmentation after burns?

To prevent melanin deposition after burns:

1. After a burn, you should avoid direct exposure to sunlight. The new skin on the wound is tender, with a thin stratum corneum, and poor protection against sunlight. The ultraviolet rays in the sun will enhance the activity of skin melanocytes and cause local capillaries to dilate, which may lead to the formation of scars and melanin deposition, so it should be avoided as much as possible.

2. When the skin is burned, melanocyte secretion becomes abnormal, resulting in pigmentation or depigmentation depending on the extent of the injury and the secretion of pigment cells. Be patient and wait for the scab on the wound to fall off by itself. After an injury, blood and tissue fluid will seep out of the wound, combine with dead and fallen cells, and form a layer of hard scab, which will irritate the skin and produce an itchy feeling. If you can't help but peel off the scab yourself at this time, it will increase the incidence of scars and pigmentation.

What are the risk factors for burns?

The main hazards of burns are the damage to muscles, bones, nerves and organs caused by skin burns. Let's take a look at the specific situation below:

Some patients must stay in bed for treatment after severe burns, which creates a hazardous factor for burns. Because patients are often unable to move freely, the possibility of bedsores increases. In addition, some patients cannot move normally, which causes decreased cardiopulmonary function, pneumonia, and even organ failure.

After a burn occurs, if treatment is delayed, a large area of infection may occur due to low immunity or long-term immobility, which can put the person's life in danger. This is also one of the harmful factors of burns.

The harm caused by burns is not only the scars on the skin surface. The skin will suffer very serious trauma after burns. These scars are generally difficult to remove, so they will cause a certain amount of pressure on the patient's mind. This is the double trouble that burns bring to patients. On the one hand, there is the pain of scars, and on the other hand, there is the psychological burden. Therefore, psychological shadow is the most critical item among the harms caused by burns.
