After birth, babies need breast milk to maintain the nutrition they need. Because babies rely on conditioned reflex to suck their mother's nipples to drink breast milk, but each woman's breasts are different in size due to genetic factors and her own developmental factors. Some people develop better, while others have smaller breasts. Women with smaller breasts may worry that they don’t have enough breast milk. So how should they judge whether they have enough breast milk?

1. Urine volume

A well-fed baby will wet 4-6 diapers, or 6-8 diapers, every day. The urine is clear or very light in color. If the urine is very dark, it means that the baby is not getting enough breast milk.

2. Poop

For a baby who has eaten enough, the meconium should be completely discharged within one week after birth. During the 2nd to 4th week (confinement period), you will have bowel movements more than 2-3 times a day. After 1-2 months, as the intestines develop, the frequency of bowel movements will generally decrease to once a day. Many breastfed babies will have a bowel movement every three or four days.

The amount of urine tells you whether your baby is getting enough breast milk, and the condition of the stool tells you whether your baby is getting enough hindmilk. If your baby is only a few weeks old and is pooping too little, you may want to check whether he's latching on correctly.

3. Feeding

The mother's breasts are softer after feeding than before feeding. The difference in breast softness before and after feeding will gradually decrease as the baby grows, until the mother reaches a state of balance between supply and demand. When breastfeeding, the baby's sucking stimulates the mother's milk burst (note: the milk that comes out of the milk burst is the hindmilk). If the mother does not feel the milk burst, she can observe the baby and see that the baby swallows after every one or two sucks.

4. Weight

In the first month, the average weekly weight gain is 112-200 grams. In 6 months, the average monthly weight gain is 500-1000 grams (Note: This is equivalent to 116-233 grams per week, but it is no longer suitable to weigh yourself on a weekly basis). Note that this is the average, not the minimum.
