The difference between medicine ring and ordinary ring

The difference between medicine ring and ordinary ring

For female friends, the best contraceptive measure is to wear a birth control ring in the female body, so that when having sex, there is no need to wear a condom, and it is not like women taking birth control pills. However, most birth control rings have a certain shelf life, so when the birth control ring is about to expire, it must be taken out as soon as possible, otherwise it will grow in the body. So what is the difference between the medicine ring and the ordinary ring?

Some contraceptive rings also contain medicine, but the dosage is very low. It is a hormonal contraceptive that combines estrogen and progesterone. Because it acts directly on the vagina, the concentration only needs the minimum effective concentration of 15 micrograms to be effective. The systemic effect is extremely low. It is especially suitable for women who are sensitive to hormones, or older women, smokers, and other women who are not suitable for oral contraceptives. Let's take a look at the two most common rings: the pill ring and the IUD.

The drug ring is placed in the vagina, usually with drugs such as progesterone. This ring has the effect of inhibiting endometrial hyperplasia and bleeding. It is generally used for patients with adenomyosis and endometrial hyperplasia. Of course, hormonal drugs also have side effects, and the chance of irregular menstruation increases. The ring without contraceptive pills is a general contraceptive and generally has no significant therapeutic effect. Compared with the ring with pills, it is less likely to affect menstrual irregularities. It should be noted that the IUD is usually inserted 3-7 days after the menstrual period ends. Avoid sexual intercourse within two weeks after the insertion of the IUD, and check the position of the IUD once a month to see if it is normal. The IUD is placed in the uterus. It is also known as the contraceptive ring. It is usually made of stainless steel, silicone, plastic glue and other materials. The IUD without medicine is called an inert intrauterine contraceptive device. If the intrauterine contraceptive device is added with progesterone or copper, it can have a contraceptive effect. It is called a medicated or active intrauterine contraceptive device, which is the most popular type of contraceptive device. The IUD has less disturbance to the whole body, acts on a local area, and does not affect fertility after removal. It has the advantages of safety, effectiveness, reversibility, simplicity, and economy. It is one of the most commonly used contraceptive devices. More than 40% of people in the country choose intrauterine contraceptive rings, and the effectiveness rate is about 90%.

Compared with the contraceptive ring, the drug ring actually has many advantages. However, for women over 35 years old, smokers, and women who are prone to thrombotic diseases, the drug ring has its risks, so you can choose a low-dose progesterone drug ring or a contraceptive ring. However, the contraceptive ring is easy to use and has few systemic side effects, so it is actually highly recommended. However, if you have adenomyosis causing excessive menstrual bleeding and dysmenorrhea, you can choose a long-acting intrauterine drug delivery system, which not only has contraceptive effects, but also has therapeutic effects.
