How to determine if a pregnant woman has hyperthyroidism?

No matter what time it is, most people don’t want to get sick. Not to mention the cost of life, and the person also suffers a lot. The most painful thing is that they have to endure the physical pain. Pregnant women, in particular, are especially unwilling to get sick. Hyperthyroidism is a very common disease among pregnant women. If a pregnant woman suffers from hyperthyroidism, it will affect the baby’s intellectual development. So how to judge whether a pregnant woman has hyperthyroidism?

Thyroid function tests usually check five indicators, so they are also called the five thyroid function tests. These five indicators are: triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). For ordinary people, if T3 and T4 are elevated and TSH is low and exceeds the normal range, it is hyperthyroidism, but pregnant women are different from ordinary people. Under normal circumstances, the values of T3 and T4 during pregnancy are 1.5 times that of the non-pregnant period, so it is normal for pregnant women to see that their T3 and T4 levels are slightly high in their thyroid function test reports.

To determine whether a pregnant woman has hyperthyroidism, the three thyroid function test indicators FT3, FT4 and TSH are mainly looked at. In the early pregnancy, the FT3 and FT4 of some pregnant women may be 10~15% higher than that in the non-pregnant period, and then decline in the second trimester (13~28 weeks). If TSH is less than 0.1mIU/L, and FT3 and FT4 exceed the maximum values during pregnancy, it is hyperthyroidism during pregnancy. Among them, pregnancy hyperthyroidism syndrome accounted for 10%, Graves hyperthyroidism accounted for 85%, and other conditions of hyperthyroidism accounted for 5%.

Pregnant women should not be anxious if they have hyperthyroidism. First, seek medical attention in time, and then get more rest. If pregnant women have morning sickness, they must supplement electrolytes and water, as well as glucose and vitamins needed by the human body, so that the body can be balanced.

What can't pregnant women with hyperthyroidism eat?

1. Avoid eating carrots. Carrots are very effective in weight loss, but because they can improve some digestive tract problems, this can easily affect thyroid function and cause thyroid enlargement.

2. Avoid consuming some stimulating drinks. Drinks like coffee will make it difficult for hyperthyroidism patients to control their abnormal excitement, which can easily aggravate the condition.

3. Avoid spicy foods, such as chili peppers, fried cakes, fried broad beans, etc. These spicy foods should be avoided. Greasy foods such as desserts and fatty meats can easily worsen the condition.

What should pregnant women with hyperthyroidism pay attention to?

1. A reasonable diet improves mood. Mental factors are one of the causes of hyperthyroidism. If you maintain an optimistic mood, it will help alleviate the symptoms of hyperthyroidism. In daily life, mood can also be improved through dietary prescriptions. Foods rich in calcium and phosphorus can help relieve irritability, such as milk, soybeans, eggs, spinach, fish, etc.

2. Provide adequate carbohydrates. It is recommended to eat more complex carbohydrates, such as wheat, rice, bread, potatoes, etc., and choose high-quality protein with high digestibility to meet the needs of yourself and your baby, such as milk, eggs, fish, poultry, soy products, etc.;

3. A moderate amount of fat helps the fetal brain development. It is recommended to eat more eggs, sesame seeds, peanuts, animal liver, lean meat, etc.
